The WAFL’s fastest footballer and WA’s longest kick were crowned at Optus Stadium during a massive WAFL Grand Final day at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
Trinity-Aquinas superboot Xavier Stone won the Burley Long Bomb competition after a massive roost during half-time of the EGT WAFL Colts decider.
The 24-year-old, who booted 35 goals in the Perth Football League’s A-Grade competition this season, edged out West Coast WAFL player Andries Mercer, Country Football WA entrant Reece Richardson, Masters player Brett Neilsen and Fan Hub winner Caitlin Wilshin to win the $1000 prize thanks to Burley.
Later in the day, during three-quarter time of the Sullivan Logistics WAFL League Grand Final, was the annual 1800-GOT-JUNK? Sprint between some of the WAFL’s quickest players.
Swan Districts young gun Ned Reiger was the victor of the sprint after an impressive run, winning $500 thanks to 1800-GOT-JUNK?.
Reiger, sporting a freshly-shaved head, topped a strong field which also included Peel Thunder recruit Archie Caldow, East Perth utility Ethan Regan, East Fremantle’s Kaiden Summerell, Claremont teen Austin van der Struyf, Subiaco’s Kieran Douglas, Perth’s Jack Bodle, West Coast’s Orien Kerr, South Fremantle’s Tarkyn Etherington and West Perth’s Austin Chapman.
“The Burley Long Bomb and 1800-GOT-JUNK? Sprint are fast becoming staples on the WAFL Grand Final day program,” WA Football’s Head of Business Development Oliver Condon said.
“It was great to have representatives from Country Football WA, Perth Football League, AFL Masters and the WAFL, as well as our Fan Hub winner, take part in the Burley Long Bomb.
“The 1800-GOT-JUNK? Sprint always provides plenty of excitement late in the day and it was excellent to have all 10 WAFL clubs involved.
“We couldn’t have done it without the excellent support from our partners in Burley and 1800-GOT-JUNK? who are both strong supporters of the WAFL and WA Football.”
