Talented EGT WAFL Colts Team of the Year named as Souths lead the wayThursday, September 4, 2025 - 2:45 PM - by Jordan McArdle

The EGT WAFL Colts Team of the Year has been selected, with minor premiers South Fremantle leading the way with five representatives including captain and coach.

The Bulldogs have four players selected in the side, including skipper Jacob Donald, AFL draft prospect Toby Whan, emerging ruck Byron Foster and reliable defender Lucas Cattalini, as well as coach Matt Rogers.

Five players went on to represent their clubs at Sullivan Logistics WAFL league level during the season including West Perth trio Sam Swadling, Lochlain Carpenter and Jacob Farrow.

Swan Districts goalsneak Leon Kickett and East Fremantle son of a gun Oliver McManus also got a taste of senior footy following strong form in the colts.

The competition’s leading goal-kicker, East Freo’s Ben Wood, was named at centre-half forward after booting 29 goals during the home-and-away season.

Wood forms an exciting tall-forward combination alongside Claremont swingman and WA under-18s vice-captain Cody Curtin.

Curtin has kicked a remarkable 20 goals in just six colts appearances this season.

The form of Perth defender Dale Sutherland and Swan Districts pair Kickett and Blake Kelly also earned late AFL draft combine invitations for the event on October 12 in Perth, with Kickett’s then upgrade to a national combine invite.

Classy half-back Farrow and ball magnet Swadling, both named as Under-18s All-Australians, will also feature in the AFL National Draft Combine in Melbourne early next month alongside fellow Colts Team of the Year members Kickett and Curtin and several other West Aussies.
