Subiaco debutant, Tigers forward, Peel veteran among players to watch in Round 19Friday, August 15, 2025 - 10:34 AM - by Jordan McArdle

We take a look at the players to watch ahead of a massive Round 19 of WAFL action.

Luke Carrello (East Fremantle)

Average disposals: 21

Carrello is coming off an eye-catching debut in East Fremantle’s hard-fought win over West Coast weekend, gathering 21 disposals.

The hard-running wingman will be looking to finish the season strongly to put his name in front of AFL recruiters after missing the AFL National Under-18s Championship through an ankle injury which saw him sidelined for several months.

He came straight into the seniors, rather than getting eased back through the colts, and repaid the faith of coach Bill Monaghan.

Kye Willcocks (East Perth)

Average disposals: 16.8

The dashing defender tried his heart out in game number 100 last week, like he does every game, in a tough loss to South Fremantle.
Willcocks reads the way so well and is damaging by foot coming out of defence.

He will have his hands full with the Sharks’ small forwards but will no doubt be up to the task.

Elijah Scoble (Perth)
Average marks: 4
It’ll be a big day for Perth’s intercept-marking machine against a star-studded Claremont forward-line.
The young gun has shown so much down back for the Demons this season and looks so comfortable at senior level.
He’ll likely spend time on the likes of Jaiden Hunter and Kieran Gowdie.

Jaiden Hunter (Claremont)
2025 goals: 37 goals in 12 games

An in-form Jaiden Hunter against his former team, bring out the popcorn.

Hunter has been in devastating form up forward for the Tigers, booting 14 goals in his last four games including consecutive bags of four.

If Claremont are to topple the Demons and cement their top-two spot, expect this man to have a big say in the contest.

Tom Blechynden (South Fremantle)

Average disposals: 24.8

Blechynden celebrated reaching a century of games for South Fremantle with a typically workmanlike performance, finishing with 29 disposals and seven clearances in a statement win over East Perth.

He may not get the external praise of a Matthew Parker, Isiah Winder or Jake Florenca but is a seriously consistent contributor for the Bulldogs week in, week out.

Corey Rundle (West Perth)

Average tackles: 8.4

The West Perth tackling machine was his team’s best player in their narrow loss to Subiaco last week, laying a staggering 14 tackles to go with 24 disposals.

Rundle, who won a premiership in just his third league game back in 2022, has really cemented his spot in the league side this season and become an important two-way player for the Falcons.

Wes Walley (Subiaco)

Average disposals: League debut

Walley will bring plenty of X-Factor to the Lions’ forward-line in his long-awaited senior debut.

The State 18s squad member had one of his better colts games for the season against West Perth last week with 15 disposals, five marks, five tackles and two goals.

His performance could’ve been even better if he converted most of his opportunities in front of the sticks, finishing with 2.4.

A strong finish to the season will only boost the West Coast Next Generation Academy talent’s draft stocks.

James Aish (Peel Thunder)

Average disposals: 23.4

The Fremantle veteran has been banging down the door for a recall to the seniors after a real purple patch.

Aish is coming off a season-high 36 disposals in Peel’s loss to Perth last week and is averaging more than 23 disposals per game in a variety of roles including midfield and defence.

Game details: Subiaco v Peel Thunder, Sullivan Logistics Stadium, 3pm Saturday

Tyrell Dewar (West Coast)

Average disposals: 26

Dewar has put together some serious performances in the WAFL whenever he’s squeezed out of the Eagles’ AFL side.

Playing a relatively new role across half-back, the Kalgoorlie and Subiaco product was one of West Coast’s best as they nearly snatched an upset win over East Fremantle, gathering 27 possessions.

Expect plenty of run and carry from the backline again this Saturday evening against Swan Districts at Mineral Resources Park.

Jesse Turner (Swan Districts)

Average disposals: 30.3

Turner is Swan Districts’ Mr Reliable in the midfield and has been for a very long time.

The hard-working leader has a day out against West Coast earlier this season with 36 disposals, nine marks, seven inside 50s and a goal.

He part of a three-headed midfield monster at the Swans alongside Jye Chalcraft and Aidan Clarke who will be very hard for the Eagles to contain.
