WAFL Round 16 Recap: Tigers Storm Home To Beat SharksTuesday, July 29, 2025 - 9:06 AM

South Fremantle 15.9 (99) v Subiaco 4.14 (38)

The Bulldogs took care of business away from home to continue their remarkable season from which their only loss has been at the hands of the bottom placed Eagles.

They remain three games clear on top of the WAFL ladder and have all but secured the minor premiership.

Despite Stefan Giro’s (35 disposals, six tackles) best efforts, the Lions inaccurate kicking cost them early and they were never able to wrestle momentum back.

Taj Schofield and Marlin Corbett both impressed for the home side, as did Jordan Snadden.

South Fremantle were led by Jamaine Jones (28 disposals) and Tom Blechynden (26 disposals), while young gun Jaxon Artemis also showed some brilliant glimpses.

Matthew Parker was once again phenomenal, posting 26 possessions and booting four goals, while Brandon Donaldson kicked three to enter the top 10 of the Bernie Naylor Medal race.

Claremont 11.9 (75) v East Fremantle 10.10 (70)

The Tigers completed a superb final quarter comeback to escape with a five-point win over the Sharks, kicking five goals to one in the fourth term.

East Fremantle led all day until the death, Claremont kicking four goals in the final twelve minutes including majors at the 24 and 25 minute-marks to secure the clutch victory.

Jye Bolton and Callan England combined to win 59 disposals, while Oliver Eastland was dominant.

Benjamin Elliot, Talon Delacey and Declan Mountford all made large impacts on the outcome, as did Jaiden Hunter with his three goals.

Milan Murdock and Cameron Eardley led from the front for the Sharks, while Harrison Marsh, Lennon Marlin and Lachlan Bailey all put in strong performances.

East Fremantle now must win just two of their final four games to guarantee a finals berth.

East Perth 15.11 (101) v West Perth 11.9 (75)

The Royals remained in touch with second position by way of a 26-point win against the rival Falcons.

Hamish Brayshaw dominated with 36 disposals, seven marks and a goal, while the usual suspects in Tom North and Angus Scott also put in strong performances.

Scott Jones, Stan Wright and Jacob Msando were all impressive, while Coby Burgiel, Ben Middleton and Mitchell Schofield all nailed three goals apiece.

Sam Swadling won 24 disposals in a spectacular second game display, while fellow Under 18’s state representative Jacob Farrow won 22 and took nine marks, as the two draft prospects showed out at league level.

Jack DeMarte and Shane Nelson each performed well for the Falcons, who gave up 12 goals to two after halftime.

Peel Thunder 10.8 (68) v West Coast 8.8 (56)

In wet and muddy conditions, it was the Thunder who booted the last two goals of the game to escape with a narrow win over the Eagles on Sunday.

West Coast hung around all day, the lead never extending to more than 19 points, and the visitors levelled the score halfway through the final quarter after kicking three consecutive goals, but late majors to Charlie Nicholls and Kyelan Sanders secured the win for the home team.

Fremantle-listed players Will Brodie and Quienten Narkle both starred with 41 and 42 possessions respectively and Liam Reidy and Brandon Walker were both also fantastic.

Corey Tregenza booted two goals for the Thunder, who must win their final four games of the season and hope East Fremantle drop three of their four to make finals.

Midfielders Campbell Chesser, Hamish Davis, Tom Gross and Jacob Newton were all among the best for West Coast.

Father-Son prospect Charlie Banfield made his debut and kicked a goal while Loch Rawlinson booted two majors as well.
