Major Honour for WAFC AdministratorWednesday, March 6, 2024 - 3:10 PM

Having been named the 2023 Western Australian Sports Administrator of the Year at the recent Sports Star of the Year Awards, Troy Kirkham is now firmly focussed on implementing a major initiative for the WAFC.

At the awards night, the WAFC was recognised for its Concussion Management Initiative, and Kirkham is playing a leading role in a move to introduce new concussion guidelines for junior and community football in 2024.

Kirkham, Executive Manager Game Development and Community Football at the West Australian Football Commission, was humbled to receive the honour after being nominated for the second year in a row.

“This is an incredible industry to work in with so many talented administrators and leaders and I have been fortunate to have been supported, mentored, and challenged to continue to develop and grow by so many across the sports sector over the years,” he said.

“Thank you to the West Australian Football Commission and all the staff that day in, day out collectively drive outcomes that generate significant benefits to the community.”

In his acceptance speech, Troy thanked SportWest and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and highlighted the invaluable contribution of volunteers in sports, saying, ''that's why we do what we do as sports administrators - for the benefit of the community".
