NEXT GENERATION OF FEMALE PLAYERS TAKE NEXT STEP IN FOOTBALL JOURNEY

Preparations are underway for WA’s most promising young players ahead of this season’s NAB AFLW National Championships.

WA’s Under 18’s Women’s team will again be coached by dual AFL Premiership player Beau McDonald.

The State 18’s Head Coach will oversee the squad of 36, which took part in a two-day team building camp in Waroona last month and is now in full training.

West Australian Football Commission Talent Program Specialist Elly Lambkin is impressed by the quality in the group.

“The process has been competitive to reach this final squad with opportunities still available for any player within this age group to receive an invitation through strong performances at WAFLW League and Rogers Cup levels,” Lambkin said.

The 18’s are scheduled to hold two trial matches in late March and early April, before opening their NAB AFLW National Championship campaign against South Australia in Perth on April 10.

This year’s WA State 16s Academy Program has also commenced training.

Matches for the WA 16’s Squad will be played as an intra-squad format with no interstate travel this year.

68 players are part of the group as they continue their development through the WAFC’s Talent Pathway in a bid to stake their claim in next year’s 18’s program.
