Dyer Appointed State Academy Head CoachThursday, December 16, 2021 - 1:05 AM

Experienced coach Ben Dyer has been appointed as head coach of the WA State 18s Academy for 2022.

Dyer, who has been the WA State 16’s Academy coach since 2019, was previously North Melbourne Football Club’s Development Manager for five years.

He also has experience as Brisbane Lions’ Academy Head Coach, Claremont Football Club Colts Coach and League Forwards Coach, and Swan Districts Football Club Colts Assistant Coach.

The appointment follows the departure of highly regarded U18’s coach Mark Webb, who shortly will begin a new coaching role with the Western Bulldogs.

Dyer says he has big shoes to fill.

“It’s a privilege to have been offered the role. Having been in the system for a few years now, I’m aware of the standards which have been set under the leadership of Marc Webb."

"Given the talent we have at our disposal here in WA I’m confident that our Talent Pathway will continue to flourish, and with the strong relationship we have with the WAFL clubs , there’s a great opportunity for emerging talent to reach their potential.”

WAFC Executive Manager WAFL & Talent Scott Baker said, “Dyer is a highly regarded and experienced coach within the industry having coached the state 16’s for the past three years and prior to that spending five years at North Melbourne in various coaching roles so he thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”

“We want WA to be the best State for talent development and I look forward to working with Ben to strengthen our State Academy program.”
