The results of the elections for Commissioners of the West Australian Football Commission were endorsed last night, Thursday 2 December 2021, at a meeting of WA Football stakeholders. 

Current WAFC Chair, Hon Wayne Martin AC QC was reappointed for three years, while Michelle Fyfe APM and Mark Hann were appointed as new Commissioners also for a term of three years. 

WAFC Deputy Chairman Brian O’Donnell congratulated all Commissioners on their appointment and thanked the voting members for their support throughout the process. 
 
“The WAFC is excited to appoint these quality individuals to the Commission and allow them to play a part in supporting the growth and development of football in Western Australia,” Mr O’Donnell said. 
 
“We look forward to working with Wayne for a further three years and welcome Michelle and Mark as new Commissioners, as we embark on an exciting next chapter for football.” 
 
“I would like to acknowledge and thank everyone who nominated for this election, the Commission was fortunate to have such a high calibre of individuals nominate and I wish all candidates all the best for the future.” 
 
Stuart Love will conclude his tenure on 31 December 20221, after serving nine years as a Commissioner between 2013 and 2021. 
 
Carolyn Hills was not re-elected after serving a 10-month term in 2021 to fill a casual vacancy. 
 
“I would like to thank Stuart for his continued and significant contribution to the Commission and his commitment to improving our great game, in particular his involvement in the negotiations with the WA Government in relation to the WAFC State Funding Agreement.”  

“Carolyn has been involved in the football industry for numerous years and we thank her for her contribution as a Commissioner in 2021.  We look forward to a continuing association with Carolyn and Stuart” Mr O’Donnell said.  
 
The newly endorsed Commissioners will commence their terms on January 1, 2022. 
 
ELECTION RESULTS 
 
Hon Wayne Martin AC QC 
Re-appointed for a 3-year term from 1 January 2022 to January 1 2025 

Wayne has been a Commissioner of the WAFC since January 2019 and was appointed the WAFC Chair in January 2020, completing his first three-year term in December 2021. During his current term on the WAFC, he has served on the Risk & Governance, Football Affairs, Future Home of Football and the Aboriginal Advisory Committees. Mr Martin has served the State and people of Western Australia in a variety of roles, most recently as Chief Justice of Western Australia, a position which he held from May 1, 2006, until his retirement from judicial office in July 2018.He has passionately followed football in Western Australia throughout his life and is the proud father of five children who have all participated in a wide-range of community-based sports.  

                                                                                             

Michelle Fyfe APM 
Appointed for a 3-year term from 1 January 2022 to 1 January 2025 

Michelle is an experienced executive and was appointed as the new chief executive officer of St John Ambulance WA in 2018.Michelle was the first women to be appointed as WA Police Assistant Commissioner, State Crime in 2012. Michelle has also served as a non-executive director of P&N Bank between 2009-2018, where she chaired its governance and renumeration committee.  This experience will further assist her in the role as a Commissioner. In 2017 Michelle received a Telstra Business Women’s Award, in the WA Public Sector and Academia category. Her service and commitment to the community of Western Australia was recognised in the 2012 Queens Birthday Honours, by receiving an Australian Police Medal.  

 
Mark Hann 
Appointed for a 3-year term from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025 

Mark has been involved in football for virtually his whole life, with a decorated playing career in the West Australian Football League. As a player he played 166 games at club and state level, including winning four (4) Premierships with Claremont Football Club, and he was also awarded Life Membership of the club. As a Certified Practising Accountant Mark will draw on his experience from various committee positions including his time as President, Western Suburbs Business Association to support his role as a new Commissioner. Mark is the owner of Tactica Partners, which provides accounting and tax services to a range of businesses.
