Indigenous Strategy Committee - EOIWednesday, June 9, 2021 - 3:25 PM

The West Australian Football Commission is seeking expressions of interest from potential members wishing to be considered for an exciting opportunity to join a newly constituted Indigenous Strategy Committee.

The Committee is being reconstituted to provide a focus on strategy development to support and grow WAFC’s relationships with the Indigenous community, and a greater opportunity to assist in the support and delivery of the WAFC Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have had a strong connection to Football in Western Australian since the game began, and their contribution to the sport has been outstanding, both on and off the field. The WAFC wants to see the connection, the relationship, the respect and the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the sport continue to grow and develop.

The Indigenous Strategy Committee will play an important role in helping to shape the involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in football both on and off the field.

The WAFC is seeking a diversified representation of Committee Members, by reference to gender, age, culture, background, ethnicity and skillset, who can assist in supporting the WAFC and the WA football community to support and grow our relationships with the Indigenous community.

Experience, exposure or interest in the Indigenous community, not just football, will be highly regarded alongside experience and demonstrated skills in governance, strategic thinking and leadership. In addition, experience in the following areas would also be highly regarded:

•    Indigenous / Cultural Awareness;
•    Public Policy or Government Relations;
•    Indigenous Community Relations
•    Indigenous Community Groups / Foundations
•    Football / Sport Industries

There are up to six positions on the Committee to be filled. Committee Membership will be staggered to encourage committee renewal and retain corporate memory. All members will serve a maximum of a three-year term with an option to serve a second three-year term. The position of Committee Member is not remunerated.
