2020 Simply Energy Cup Grand Final Monday, September 21, 2020 - 12:34 PM

Darling Range Sports College have won the Simply Energy Cup Cable Division for the fourth time in seven years, defeating local rivals Governor Stirling Senior High School by 27 points in the Grand Final on Wednesday, 16th of September, at UWA Sports Park.

Darling Range burst out of the blocks early, kicking five goals straight in no time, making full use of the strong breeze heading to the northern end.  They went into the half time break with a solid lead; 6.0.36 to 1.3.9.  Governor Stirling fought back manfully in the second half as their ball movement improved through the middle of the ground, managing to outscore their opponents for the half.  In the end though, an accurate Darling Range came out on top: 9.0.54 to 4.3.27.

Damon Judge from Darling Range SC was judged best afield, taking home the Rhys Kampen Medal.

The Jakovich Division Grand Final was played between SEDA and Byford Secondary College.  Both teams attacked the ball hard early with SEDA finishing the first half clearly on top after using the strong breeze which was in their favour.  The half time score was SEDA 6.5.41 to Byford 1.1.7.  In the second half, Byford were unable to utilise the breeze and couldn't run with the bigger bodies of the SEDA team, SEDA eventually winning 11.7.73 to 2.4.16.

Kye Smith (SEDA) was adjudged Best on Ground with a fantastic game through the midfield.

WAFC Schools Specialist Regan Atkinson congratulated all schools on their involvement for 2020.

“In what has been a trying year due to COVID-19, it was a fantastic effort by all schools and teachers in working together to ensure the season went ahead.  Special thanks to Mr. Justin Burt and Mr. Tom Moscarda for their efforts in coordinating the competition.  Congratulations to Darling Range Sports College on their fourth triumph in seven years in the Cable Division, and to SEDA for taking out their first Simply Energy Cup trophy in the Jakovich Division.”
