After spending half his life as a league footballer, Jarrad Schofield has decided to draw the curtain to his glittering football career.

Jarrad has come full circle with his footy, starting back with Subiaco at the tender age of 11.

Jarrad started playing football with the Ocean Ridge Junior Football Club before playing with the Kingsley Junior Football Club and HaleSchool.

He was a member of Subiaco’s Lions Pride Development Squad and progressed through to Colts and played League football with Subiaco at the age of 18 in 1993.

He was drafted by the West Coast Eagles in 1992 and made his AFL debut in 1993 in round 11 against the Sydney Swans at the SCG.

In a rare feat, Jarrad made his senior debut for Subiaco and West Coast in the same year.

He switched to Port Adelaide in 1999 and was noted for being a creative running midfielder, often used as a “link man” in the midfield. In 2004 he enjoyed an outstanding season for Port, and topped it off by being part of Port’s 2004 AFL Premiership.

Jarrad then returned home to WA in 2005, this time playing with the Fremantle Football Club. Prior to Round 22 in 2006 he announced that he would retire at the end of that season, with injury restricting him to just two matches.

Rather than “hang up the boots,” Jarrad returned to the Lions den and was a member of the 2006 and 2007 premiership side.

Senior Coach Scott Watters stated, “Jarrad has had an outstanding career highlighted by premiership success at both AFL and WAFL level. His impeccable skills and decision making have always been his trademark.”

“One of the most pleasing aspects of Jarrad’s career has been the growth of his leadership and coaching capabilities. In recent years his contribution on field has been more than matched by his willingness to impart his knowledge to many of the younger players coming through.”

He dominated in the first half of the 2nd Semi Final on Saturday against West Perth, collecting 14 of his 20 disposals and kicking two goals contributing to the Lions defeat of the Falcons. Jarrad will be playing in his third WAFL Grand Final on Sunday 21 September which will hopefully end his career with one more premiership medallion. This will mark his 329th Australian Rules Football Game.

Scott Watters mentioned that Jarrad should rest easy knowing he's made a significant contribution to the recent success of the club.

The Subiaco Football Club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jarrad on his momentous career and wish him all the best for the future.
