| Almost $1 million helps develop facilities |

A Football Facilities Strategic Plan (FFSP) was commissioned last year by the WAFC and The Department of Sport and Recreation. The plan stemmed from estimates that over the next 15 years, the Perth Metropolitan and Peel areas would need to cater for approximately 90 new football clubs, 700 new teams and 17,000 new players with the problem of a lack of facilities for the athletes to play. From the FFSP, a Community Development Facilities Fund was established (using additional revenue from the WAFC’s management of Subiaco Oval) with a proposal to allocate $500,000 to WAFL clubs and their districts for capital works and projects. This year, an additional $250,000 was originally allocated, however another $150,000 has been taken from funds set aside for Subiaco Oval upgrades and injected into the project. The most money has been used on lights with almost $291,000 spent on upgrades or construction. Scoreboards and Repairs were the next most upgraded with over $150,000 spent. There was over $150,000 allocated to project funds for developing the game with plans in most districts for facility development and policy papers drawn up called “football and climate change” and “football and environment best practice.”

Over the past 14 months $900,000 has been distributed by the West Australian Football Commission’s Community Development Facilities Fund for upgrades to things such as lighting, scoreboards and changerooms.
