McGrath is one of the elder statesman of the team and his message to his teammates at their jumper presentation was based on restoring State pride. “It is a privilege to be named captain of the State team,” he said. “We have more pace in this team than last year and we want to go and put WA football back on the map and redeem ourselves for last year’s performance.” Peel big man Zac Beeck was a late addition to the squad, while it has been a big week for Shaun Hildebrandt. The former Thunder and now Subiaco midfielder became a father for the first time this week and now he is heading out to play his first game of State football. WA Umpires Gavin Statham (field), Ryan Kukura (boundary) and Jeromy Jones (goal) will also be representing WA. WAFL State squad: CLAREMONT: Ian Richardson |
