Premiership Teams to Reunite Print E-mail

On Monday the 2nd of June two of East Perth's greatest teams will reunite to celebrate their premiership success. It has been 50 years since the Jack Sheedy led Royals defeated East Fremantle by 2 points to make up for the shock loss they suffered the year before. It has also been 30 years since Barry Cable led the Royals to a premiership in his first year as Coach. They also won by 2 points this time defeating Perth in torrential rain.

As part of the day's activities the 1978 Premiership Team will hold a special training session at half time of the League game. According to George Michalczyk who along with Larry Kickett, John Cotton and Bruce McLean are organising the weekends festivities, the training should be very interesting indeed.

"Paul Arnold has been in a very very good paddock & would certainly be the pick of those who has neglected himself in recent years. Barry Cable is still in superb condition & with our phys ed coach Bruce Sinclair, they will certainly provide the players & crowd some entertainment!"

"Bradley Smith & Wayne (Barrell) Otway are unable to train due to not being physically fit enough & Phil Kelly won't train because he does'nt want to embarrass himself"

"Greg Walsh is still in very good nick, and so he should be, being semi retired & playing golf 3 times a week"

"Steve Curtis is flying in from Adelaide & as usual is expected to be the first to get to the 3 functions planned for the weekend & the LAST to leave them all!! The only bloke who has any chance of staying with him is Wayne Duke!"

Make sure you don't miss out on this training session and other events planned for the day, as well as watching a cracking game between East Perth and the garlic munchers as they battle to get their respective seasons back on track.

Bouncedown 2.15pm Monday 2nd June 2008 with the Colts & Reserves starting at their normal times.
