A group of 20 WA players have been invited to attend this year’s NAB AFL National Draft Combine at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne from October 2-5.
In total, 114 Draft prospects from around Australia will participate in tests to measure athletic attributes such as speed, agility and endurance along with refined drills to assess football skills.
A new goal-kicking test that was developed by AIS-AFL Academy assistant coach Brad Johnson and AFL Academies Development Manager Michael Ablett will be conducted for the first time on Thursday October 4.
AFL National and International Talent Manager Kevin Sheehan said the 2012 Draft Combine includes 10 international athletes from the USA, PNG, New Zealand, Ireland, Nauru and China.
“In a first for the Draft Combine, international athletes have been invited to test alongside Australia’s best underage players.
“The athletes represent the best talent that has attended Draft Combines throughout the world over the past 12 months. Mike Pyke’s performance at the Grand Final has shown us the potential international players can bring to the game,” Mr Sheehan said.
Another 18 WA players have been invited to attend screening at the State Draft Combine on October 14.
