Mitchell takes out 2012 Sandover Medal

Claremont midfielder Kane Mitchell claimed the 2012 Sandover Medal at Crown Perth’s Grand Ballroom with a record-equalling 58 votes.

Mitchell averaged 25.4 possessions a game including five matches where he had 30 or more disposals. He also booted 27 majors for the season including five in Round 16 against Swan Districts and then another three on three separate occasions.

He polled five votes in seven games and four votes on four occasions to equal the record of 58 votes set by Matt Priddis (Subiaco) in 2006.

West Perth's Mark Hutchings also polled extremely well with 51 votes to finish runner-up while East Perth's Paul Johnson came third with 42 votes.

Mitchell added the Sandover Medal to his swag of awards for 2012 including the AAMI WAFL Player of the Year Award, WAFL Football Budget Player of the Year Award and West Australian Newspapers WAFL Player of the Year Award.

He now has a premiership in his sights with Claremont playing East Fremantle in the WAFL Grand Final at Patersons Stadium on Sunday 23 September.
