WAFL law change for season 2012

The West Australian Football League will implement one law change for season 2012 in accordance with recent rule changes at AFL level.

The introduction of the deliberate rushed behind law was agreed upon at last week’s WAFL Football Managers meeting. Vision is being supplied to all clubs by the WAFL umpiring department providing examples of the interpretation of the law.

Deliberate rushed behind

The law states that a free kick shall be awarded against a player who intentionally rushes a behind over the attacking team’s goal or behind line or into a goal post.

The field umpire is to give the benefit of the doubt to the defender and when the defender is deemed to be under perceived pressure a point will be awarded.

If a free kick is awarded, it shall be taken from the point where the ball crossed the line or hit the post.
