The West Australian Football League, in conjunction with the Fremantle Dockers, West Coast Eagles and WAFL clubs, today completed the allocation of AFL interstate recruits to WAFL clubs.
In addition to the new interstate recruits, Fremantle Dockers player Jayden Pitt was added to the pool and reallocated from Perth Football Club to East Perth Football Club.
WAFL Operations Manager Clint Roberts congratulated both the WAFL and AFL clubs for the professional manner in which they conducted the process.
“All players were allocated to the WAFL club where they will receive the greatest opportunity to develop their game and where the WAFL club will benefit most from their services. The bottom five WAFL clubs from last year are the main beneficiaries of these players but higher placed clubs were also included in the allocation,” Roberts said.
“With some of the bottom five clubs from last already having a large number of AFL players on their lists, it was felt that some AFL players would have a better opportunity with top four clubs. This allocation was agreed to by the WAFC Football Affairs Committee at a special meeting this week, which was brought forward to enable all parties to better plan their seasons.
“At all times the best interests of the players was paramount and on this basis these players have been offered a great opportunity for success. The basis of this opportunity is the communication that takes place between the WAFL clubs and the AFL clubs, which has resulted in the rapid development of many players over the years.
“The WAFL wishes all players great success as we embark on another great season of ‘up close and personal’ WAFL football,” he said.
