First home final at Shark Park

THE East Fremantle Football Club League side has waited eight years, since 2002, to participate in a WAFL finals series but the wait is over and to make the occasion even more momentous the 1st Semi Final will be played at Shark Park in what will be the first home final that the club has ever hosted at the ground.

In his third year at the helm, coach Shane Woewodin's hard work is starting to bear fruit. The League side was under pressure five weeks ago as they headed into a bye with four straight losses.

Having dropped out of the final four with four games remaining and they needed to win all four remaining home and away games, starting with a home derby versus South Fremantle, to guarantee a spot in the final series.

The win in the Derby provided the impetus for the resurgence; with wins against Perth, Subiaco and Peel to follow.

The win against Subiaco, the first since 2002, ended a 20 game losing streak against the Lions, and was particularly special as the side found confidence and form in the countdown to September.

Following victory against Peel in the final home and away game on August 22,  the Sharks had secured third position and a home final and the Blue and White supporters have been grinning ever since.

Not only has the League side returned to finals but the Reserves have finished the season in second position under the guidance of Phil Cronan and earned the right to play in the Second Semi Final at Claremont Oval.

Phil has done a terrific job is assisting Shane with the development of the list in the past three years and the depth of talent at the Club at present is as strong as it has been for some time.

The Colts, under first year Coach and East Fremantle Football Club Legend, Steve Malaxos, have also enjoyed a standout season, finishing as minor premiers with a record of 18 wins and 2 losses.

The East Fremantle Football Club Colts success is testament to the work that Steve (Stav) has put into their development which not only culminated in 18 victories throughout the home and away season, but also lead to seven players being selected in the State Under 18 side.

Three of those players; Alex Fasolo, Jamie Cripps and Justin Monaco, have since been invited to the AFL Draft Camp, while another nine players being invited to the State AFL Screening.

The Colts side will be playing in the Second Semi Final at Shark Park this weekend as part of a WAFL Colts Double Header, showcasing the best Under 18 talent that the State has on offer.

There is a Corporate Luncheon and match day hospitality available along with kids activities to encourage the whole family along to what is a great family day out.
