CLAREMONT claimed pre-season honours in the WAFL’s Variety Challenge competition, finishing on top of the ladder followed by East Fremantle after both sides remained undefeated throughout three matches.
The Tigers finished higher on percentage after good wins against Swan Districts, Perth and East Perth, while the Sharks defeated South Fremantle, West Perth and Subiaco to place second.
The top four also included West Perth and East Perth, who each won two games, while Perth, Subiaco, South Fremantle and Peel Thunder all won one game each. Swan Districts failed to register a win.
All gate proceeds from the four-week Variety Challenge will be donated to the Variety WA children’s charity, which provides help to enrich the lives of WA's special kids – whether it’s overcoming illness, getting mobile again, or just making life a little happier.
With the completion of the Variety Challenge, focus now shifts to Round 1 of the AAMI WAFL Premiership season, which kicks off at Fremantle Oval this Friday night, March 19, commencing at 6.40pm.
Other Round 1 games will see West Perth host Swan Districts at Arena Joondalup, Perth and East Fremantle clash at EFTel Oval and Peel Thunder play Claremont at Bendigo Bank Stadium, all on Saturday afternoon. Subiaco has the Round 1 bye.
