Fixture changes for Fremantle Oval

FIXTURES for this weekend’s WAFL pre-season Variety Challenge games at Fremantle Oval have been changed due to the rescheduling of the AFL NAB Challenge game between Fremantle and Geelong.

The NAB Challenge match has been moved to Fremantle Oval to allow Subiaco Oval the greatest amount of time for turf recovery following the weekend’s ACDC concerts.

The Fremantle and Geelong game will commence at Fremantle at 1pm, with the South Fremantle and Subiaco reserves and league fixtures shifted to the afternoon. The league game will now kick off at 3.25pm and reserves at 5.50pm.

The colts game will be played tonight, Friday, March 12, commencing at 6.30pm. East Perth and Claremont also clash tonight, with the league game scheduled for 5.30pm and reserves 7.50pm, both at Medibank Stadium.

Perth and West Perth will feature in two colts games on Saturday morning as part of an initiative this pre-season to give young players a greater opportunity to experience WAFL colts football.

With large pre-season number at several clubs, WAFL Operations Manager Clint Roberts said the option was given to field a second colts side in the Variety Challenge competition.

“It is a great opportunity for more 17 and 18-year-old players to experience colts football and help the clubs with their selection process heading into the season,” Roberts said.  West Perth, Perth, South Fremantle and East Fremantle all took up the option to field a second colts side this year.
