WA Football Media Awards

WAFL players and premiership coach John Dimmer were among those honoured at last night's WA Football Media Awards in the Polly Farmer Room at Subiaco Oval.

The prestigious event was attended by more than 100 of WA's football media as well as WAFL and AFL players, coaches, staff and officials.

Awards were presented to the top television, radio and print media for season 2009, while player awards, coaching awards and special service awards were also presented.

WAFL player award winners included Sandover Medallist Ross Young from Perth, Swan Districts talent Lewis Jetta, Claremont spearhead Chad Jones and West Perth's Brent LeCras, while Dimmer received the award for Coach of the Year.

WAFL photographer Bill Crabb was awarded Best WAFL Action Photo, while ABC radio won the Best WAFL Coverage award and Kim Hagdorn from the Sunday Times Best WAFL Story.

Retired West Coast Eagle and new East Perth recruit David Wirrpanda was a special guest on the night and had an insightful interview with MC Basil Zempilas, while the prestigious Geoff Christian Award for Excellence in Season 2009 was awarded to football commentator and columnist Ken Judge.

AFL player awards went to West Coast skipper Darren Glass and Fremantle's Aaron Sandilands and Stephen Hill.
