Young makes it a clean sweep

Perth midfielder Ross Young made a clean sweep of WAFL individual awards for 2009 by winning 990am Information Radio’s Work Clobber Player of the Year Award.

Young, 19 votes, pipped Swan Districts midfielder Brett Robinson by one vote to add to his Sandover Medal, Football Budget and West Australian Newspaper Player of the Year Awards.

Robinson had led the voting until breaking his collarbone the same round voting went ‘in-camera’, missing the remaining four home-and-away matches.

Both players received trophies and cheques from Work Clobber for their efforts in 2009, which were presented during 990am Information Radio’s Grand Final preview.

It was also a tight affair in the BIC Rising Star Award with Swan Districts defender Travis Casserly (21 votes) holding off another defender, Subiaco’s Simon White by a solitary vote.

While White was busy preparing for the Grand Final, Casserly happily received his trophy and cheque from BIC.

Players in the running for the BIC Rising Star award must be 21 years or under and have played 10 WAFL league games or less before the start of the 2009 season.

990am Information Radio would like to thank Work Clobber and BIC for their continued support of the Player of the Year and Rising Star Awards.
