Subiaco on top as upsets continue

EAST Perth and Claremont consolidated last weekend’s upset wins with two more spirited performances in Round 14 of the West Australian Football League on the weekend.

The Royals and Tigers took down finals contenders East Fremantle and West Perth respectively on the back of strong wins last weekend to move up the ladder, while Perth fell to last place with their 29-point loss to South Fremantle.

Subiaco climbed a game clear in top spot on the ladder with their 107-point thrashing of Peel Thunder at Medibank Stadium, with Trent Dennis-Lane moving into equal second on the goalkicking leaderboard with a haul of 5.5 for the Lions.

Blake Broadhurst was also on target with 6.2, while reigning Bernie Naylor Medallist Brad Smith added 3.2 to remain WAFL leading goalkicker heading into Round 15 NAIDOC Week.

Chad Jones spearheaded Claremont’s 14-point win with 4.1 while Luke Blackwell collected 31 possessions and Jaxon Crabb had 28 disposals.

Andrew Merrington also booted 4.1 in East Perth’s 49-point win over East Fremantle, while Craig Wulff notched up 33 possessions and added one goal.
