WAFC announces new partnership

THE West Australian Football Commission and Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) announced a new partnership to promote WAFL products during a TAB Affiliates launch at Belmont Racecourse yesterday afternoon.

Coupled with the recent launch of TAB’s new sports betting ‘Player’ brand, the Affiliates Program will see WAFL fans given the opportunity to place a bet on their favourite team, potential premiers or a number of other scenarios, all while earning TAB donations for their club.

In-game products will also be available in the future, allowing football fans to place wagers during the course of a game on aspects such as the next goal-kicker or margin at the coming break. The partnership will also add another product to TAB’s Player range, offering a complete package to West Australian sports betting fans.

The new partnership, which is the first of its kind for football in WA, will also generate new revenue streams for the WAFC and WAFL with a percentage of each wager to be donated to football clubs, boosting available funds for the future development of community football in the State.

All that club members need to do is sign up for the Affiliates Program through the click through banner on the homepage of their football club’s website.

This season has seen a huge return of interest to the WAFL, with attendances up 24 per cent on the same time last season and several clubs reporting increasing membership numbers and a renewed sense of pride in the competition.

WAFL operations manager Clint Roberts said it was great to see attendance numbers continue to grow as the quality of games attracts big crowds to the football, and hoped the new partnership with TAB in WA would enhance the experience further.

“We’ve had a sensational start to the season both on and off the field with some very close results and big crowds,” Mr Roberts said.

“More than 19,000 people went to a WAFL game over the Foundation Day long weekend, while we’ve had five rounds with total attendance of more than 10,000.

“I think we can put it down to the quality of the competition and how unpredictable and exciting the close results have been, as well as the great work the clubs have been doing to promote their fixtures,” he said.
