A GRAND Final replay between Subiaco and Swan Districts will follow this Saturday’s State 18s clash with Victoria Metro in a huge weekend for WA football.
The State 18s take on the Vics at Subiaco Oval at 11am this Saturday, with free entry for all spectators. The WAFL Grand Final replay kicks off afterwards at 2.15pm just down the road at Medibank Stadium in Leederville.
Swan Districts have won the last two contests between the clubs to make some amends for the 2008 Grand Final defeat, and will have the chance to record their 100th overall win against the Lions after claiming their 99th in Round 2.
Other WAFL games this Saturday will see Perth host East Perth at EFTel Oval, Peel Thunder play East Fremantle at Rushton Park and South Fremantle take on West Perth at Fremantle Oval. And with results expected to have a bearing on top four ladder positions, the scene is set for another thrilling round of fixtures.
The close results have also made an impact on WAFL attendance figures, which remain almost 25 per cent higher than the same time last season. Last fortnight’s Foundation Day round attracted a record 19,420 fans – the most for a single round since 1994.
The number of rounds with attendance of more than 10,000 people has also increased, with five rounds recorded so far this season compared to two or three for the same period in previous seasons.
Perth’s Troy Cook will miss this weekend’s game and the Demons’ Round 13 contest against Swan Districts after being suspended for two weeks at the WAFL Tribunal last night (Tuesday, June 9) for making forceful front-on contact with Peel Thunder’s Matthew Brown.
