WANFLUA was formed officially in 1953 to bond the three disciplines of field umpiring, boundary umpiring and goal umpiring, and to form a strong bond between all members officiating at the state's top level. In 2002, the WANFLUA celebrated its 50th year. This milestone was celebrated with many functions during the year, with a special Gala Event on Friday June 14. The Association was founded in an era where the league was called the Western Australian National Football League (WANFL). Hence, our name became the WANFL Umpires Association. Although the league has changed its name from "WANFL", then to "WAFL", then to "WESTAR Rules" and now back to "WAFL", the association has stayed with tradition and is still referred to by its original name WANFLUA. WANFLUA's primary role is to represent the needs of all umpires at the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC). WANFLUA also organises social functions during every year and represents umpires in dispute resolution. Our headquarters are located at Ernest Johnson Oval, South Perth (Western Australia). During the football season we train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and our training includes fitness development, theory seminars, game reviews and skill drills. A range of people, including coaching staff and trainers, work behind the scenes to ensure that the WANFLUA is a professional unit. WANFLUA Subscriptions for the 2007 season are $230. This can be paid directly to the association treasurer. Cheques must be made payable to WANFLUA.
