2008 WA Senior Community State Umpire Colin Gray has been chosen to represent his fellow umpires on the Australian Amateur U/23 team tour of Ireland in October.

After officiating in the match between the West Coast Eagles U/23 WA State Amateur team and Northern Tasmania in Devonport earlier this season Gray will now take the next step and travel with the Australian Team to Ireland.

He will officiate in the 4 “International Rules” games that the team will play in Cork, Galway and Dublin (twice).

Gray is very excited at the opportunity. “It is a complete honor to be given the opportunity to represent Community Umpiring overseas and to be able to develop life long friendships with players and officials from the other states and Ireland. It will be an experience I will never forget. I am looking forward to the thrill of umpiring the first match and to see Ireland, a place I never thought I would see” says Gray.

Gray also goes onto say “The opportunity came about because of the AAFC deciding to take a WA umpire with them and me being on the Community Umpiring Panel and having umpired the U/23 State Amateur Game this year”.

Gray would like to thank the Australian Amateur Football Council (Peter Grosser), Directors of the WA Amateur Football League, the WA Football Commission, WA Senior Community Field Umpires Coach Terry Battle and Umpire Development Officer Glenn Omodei for their support.

There will be a raffle and an auction at the WA Community Football Umpires Association Grand Final Dinner at Hamer Park on the evening of September 10 and also at the WAAFL A Grade Grand Final at Medibank Stadium on September 20 to help the WACFUA raise money towards the cost of the trip.
