WA Umpires selected for AFL Grand Final

West Australian boundary umpire Nathan Doig will officiate in his first AFL Grand Final this weekend after being named alongside WA field umpire Brett Rosebury.

Rosebury, who was also announced as 2011 All-Australian umpire, will officiate in his fourth AFL Grand Final, while Doig will make his debut as the fifth WA umpire selected for an AFL Grand Final.

Doig, who has umpired 203 senior games including 137 AFL games, commenced his umpiring career in the WAFL in 2002. He umpired in the 2003 and 2004 WAFL Grand Finals before being added to the AFL umpiring panel in 2005.

WA High Performance Umpire’s Coach Darryl Sinclair congratulated Doig and Rosebury on being selected for this year’s AFL Grand Final and said it was an outstanding achievement for both umpires.

“Both Brett and Nathan have performed very well this season and it is fantastic to see two WA umpires selected for the AFL Grand Final. It will be great to see Nathan umpiring in his first Grand Final, while Brett will be doing his fourth,” Sinclair said.

“Being selected as an All-Australian umpire is also a great achievement for Brett and shows our WA umpires that they can achieve at the highest level if they put in the hard work and effort.”

Rosebury will be joined in the field by Shaun Ryan and Chris Donlon, while Matt Stevic is the emergency umpire.

Doig will be joined by boundary umpires Mark Foster, Mark Thomson, Chris Gordon and emergency Jonathon Creasey, while goal umpires include David Dixon, Luke Walker and emergency Chelsea Roffey.
