The AIS-AFL Academy Camp has commenced at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra with High Performance Coaches Michael O’Loughlin and Chris Johnson as well as assistant coaches/mentors Brad Johnson, Glen Jakovich and Tadhg Kennelly.
The AFL has expanded the elite junior pathway of the AIS/AFL Academy with the introduction of a two-tier model for its 15th intake of young players for the 2012 year.
Michael O’Loughlin remains AIS-AFL Academy Head Coach and manages the Level Two program. This squad is made up of 30 players, who are turning 17 through the 2011 year and are therefore eligible for the 2012 NAB AFL Draft. The aim is to prepare these players for the step into senior AFL football.
Chris Johnson was appointed as the 2011 AIS-AFL Academy Level One coach in August 2011. The Level One Program, which includes 30 players mainly chosen from the 2011 NAB AFL Under 16 Championships, has a directive to prepare players for the next stage of their junior career.
