THE 2010 NAB AFL National 16s Championships are well under way and Western Australia’s Brownes Chill AFL State 16s will move into the final round with one win and one loss.
The 16s entered Round 2 coming off a 44-point win against Victoria Country, but weren’t able to pull it off again during yesterday’s game against South Australia, who won 10.15 (75) to 7.6 (48) at Blacktown Olympic Park.
“We were unable to combat the physical and congested game and the wet conditions made it challenging,” said WAFC High Performance Coordinator Raffaele Guadagnino.
Despite the loss, Gaudagnino said there were strong performances from many players, including Riley Hutchinson, Corey Chalmers, Shannon Taylor and Adam Carter.
Leading goal kickers were Taylor with two goals and Brant Colledge with one.
The 2010 Championships are shaping up to be the toughest yet, with the introduction of two new teams to the Division Two competition, the World XVIII and South Pacific.
The teams are also battling it out for the opportunity to finish in the top two spots and play a curtain-raiser to the AFL Grand Final at the MCG in September.
WA’s State 16s will play their final game this Friday July 9 against Victoria Metro at Blacktown Olympic Park, NSW. The squad list is attached.
