AFL Draft highlights strength of WA football

THE AFL National Draft on November 26 produced another outstanding result for WA football with 13 players selected, including two Top 10 picks.

The strength of the WAFL development pathway has again been underlined with the result, which means that 68 (13 draftees + 55 listed) WA players have been added to AFL club lists over the past 3 years via the National, Rookie and Pre Season drafts.

And with the 2009 Rookie and Preseason Drafts still to come, that number could increase even further.

WAFC High Performance Coach Rob Wiley said this year's draft was another strong outcome for WA football.

"It's a result that all community and WAFL football clubs that have been involved in the development of these young players, should be very proud of," Wiley said.

"From the players' point of view, we would be hopeful that the opportunity that has been presented will be grasped with both hands and that they use the full-time professional environment of an AFL club to further improve their game”.
