State 18s claim title

Western Australia’s State 18s side capped off a sensational National Championship campaign with a convincing 48-point win over Victoria Country at Etihad Stadium today (July 1).

Led by three goals from Jack Darling and a dominant midfield display from Kane Lucas, WA fought back after trailing early in the contest to control the second half and win 16.14 (110) to 9.8 (62).

State 16s depart for Blacktown

Western Australia’s State 16s squad departed for New South Wales today to compete at the NAB AFL National 16s Championships.

The team includes captain Jacob Burnham from Bassendean Junior Football, vice captains Steven Coniglio (Upper Swan), Brandon Erceg (Bassendean) and Jordan Lockyer (Joondalup/Kinross), who is the son of State 18s coach Andrew Lockyer.

State 18s poised to claim championship

WESTERN Australia is in the box seat to take out the 2009 NAB AFL State 18s Championship following a 20-goal thrashing of Tasmania at Casey Fields on Saturday (June 27).

The final game of the championships against Victoria Country this Wednesday (July 1) should be a formality for WA to seal the title after winning their opening four games to lead the ladder with an outstanding 241 per cent.

State 16s prepare for championship

Western Australia’s State 16s squad kick-started its NAB AFL National Championship preparations with a 27-point win over the WA Country Football League’s CBH Colts at Fremantle Oval last Friday night.

The State 16s put in a strong team performance to claim the 11.13 (79) to 7.10 (52) win over the CBH Colts, who fought hard to stay in touch with Jeremy McGovern from North Albany booting three goals to be among his side’s best.

Travelling party named for State 18s

WESTERN Australia’s squad of 25 has been named to travel to Melbourne for the final two games of the NAB AFL 18s National Championship with their sights firmly set on the title.

After winning their opening three games against South Australia, Northern Territory and Victoria Metro, the WA boys are on top of the 18s National Championship ladder and poised to claim WA’s third championship title in the past 10 years as the only State to defeat Victoria in a decade.
