Dodgy showers, worn out footy jumpers and dull club rooms could be a thing of the past with Toyota Cash Up Your Club - with one lucky local footy club winning $10,000 and two tickets to the 2008 Toyota AFL Grand Final.Extending Toyota’s commitment to grassroots football, the Toyota Cash Up Your Club competition gives local footy clubs a chance to secure some much-needed funding to improve grounds and facilities, subsidise renovations, and purchase equipment, uniforms and medical supplies. Toyota Ambassador and Brisbane Lions’ Co-Captain, Jonathan Brown, is encouraging local clubs across Australia to enter the competition. “Every AFL player remembers their time at a grassroots club where the facilities have been pretty basic, and we’ve all had working bees, pie nights and social activities to raise a bit of extra cash for the maintenance of facilities and new equipment,” Jonathan said. “$10,000 through Toyota Cash Up Your Club will help one lucky footy club get their hands on some extra money for whatever they need, which should take some pressure off the volunteers and the club as a whole,” he said. Lisa Lee, who penned last year’s Cash Up Your Club winning entry on behalf of the Emmanuel Hawks, said the prize was used to build a large pergola at their home ground, which is used for club meetings and important fundraising activities. The old caravan that used to house the canteen is a distant memory. “We put a lot of thought into how we would spend the money and the pergola is something the whole club benefits from. It brings people together – even during construction there were supporters, volunteers and other members of the community pitching in,” Ms Lee said. “Winning Toyota Cash Up Your Club gave the Emmanuel Hawks a new lease of life and we’re confident in our club’s future. We’ve been around for 20 years, and now we’re sure we’ll be around for another 20,” she said. Since winning Toyota Cash Up Your Club, the Emmanuel Hawks have gone from strength to strength with a significant increase in enrolments, introducing NAB AusKick and starting a junior netball competition to run throughout the league. The Toyota Cash Up Your Club competition is part of Toyota’s broader commitment towards grassroots footy which includes its Good for Footy program. To-date, Toyota dealers have raised more than $1 million for local grassroots football clubs and teams in Victoria and Southern New South Wales – Cash Up Your Club extends this to a national program.
