Match of The Week - Coolbinia West Perth v Collegians Print E-mail
The round 14 Keystart Home Loans Match of the Week sees the top of the table Collegians travel to Coolbinia West Perth.

This David vs Goliath matchup is a tall order for the home side but there is no doubt that they will give it their all.

Coolbinia West Perth have had a disappointed year but their heart and endeavour cannot be questioned.  There is a lot of pride in the jumper but unfortunately that hasn’t been enough to get them over the line in their 13 starts this season.  Baker, Okley, Anderson, Santarini, Mitchell, Morley and Allen have tried all year and acquitted themselves well.

All is not lost for Coolbinia West Perth as their Colts side sits in third spot and is in a strong position to play finals.  The future of the club is bright and this is in no small part due to the continued relationship with the Bombers Junior Football Club. Coolbinia West Perth would like to recognize several player milestones, Ross Baker 150 games, Joel Shirlow 200 games and Grant Cook 200 games.

Colts Daniel Allsop and Ryan Power were WA representatives and Daniel Murray was a member of the WA State under 18s.  Jarrett Anderson and Tim Fisher have been involved with East Perth Reserves. After a disappointing 2007, Collegians have rebuilt in 2008 and sit two games clear atop the B Grade ladder with a 12-1 win-loss record.  The club’s aim is to return to A Grade League football in the near future.

That goal is well within reach as their 2008 campaign is gaining momentum by the week and they are clearly the team to beat. Several key factors have been involved in the club’s revival in 2008, not least of all the appointment of Marcus Ayres as coach.

Several key players have returned to the club, including former Best & Fairest winner Phil Brand and many players from the Colts ranks have been promoted to the league side and are relishing in the opportunities granted to them.

Co-captains Andy Roberts and Paul MacGillvray have had stellar seasons leading from the front.  The true measure of Collegians strength this season, though, is that all five teams in both League and Colts competitions hold top three positions on their respective ladders.

Collegians would like to acknowledge the contribution of long-term league sponsors Fleet Network for their ongoing support.
