Ambassadors spend an afternoon with West Coast

A group of 60 AFL School Ambassadors improved their football knowledge and skills with the West Coast Eagles playing group on Monday, March 19.

The AFL School Ambassadors, who are responsible for promoting football in their respective schools, took part in skills-based drills instructed by West Coast players, before playing an Eagles Faction Footy game umpired and coached by West Coast players.

2011 Primary School Ambassador of the Year Award winner Marion Burt from Samson Primary School said it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved.

“I have supported the Eagles since they started so it’s exciting to meet them and learn about what they have to go through in their training and preparation,” she said.

Free PD from the WA Football Commission

The WA Football Commission is holding free afterschool courses for teachers at locations close to their schools and at Patersons Stadium in Subiaco. Football Districts are hosting and presenting Induction Sessions during Term 1 for those who want to become Coles AFL School Ambassadors. Newspapers in Education and the West Coast Eagles are also offering professional learning opportunities this term. The Fremantle Dockers Football Club will hold a session in Term 4. Teachers interested in attending need to register by email ASAP as places are limited.

Mundy and Selwood Entertain Ambassadors

Fremantle Dockers player David Mundy and West Coast Eagle, Adam Selwood, entertained over 200 AFL School Ambassadors and their guests at a function to launch the AFL Schools Season in WA.

Held at Patterson Stadium prior to the NAB Cup games on Sunday 19 February, presentations from key corporate and football partners included new WAFC Commissioner, Larry Kickett, Coles WA Marketing Manager, Colin Chantler and AFL Sports Ready State Manager, Leigh Willison.

2012 - AFL Schools Programs in WA Schools

Welcome to what promises to be another great year for AFL in WA schools.

In the past five years, participation in AFL school competitions and programs has increased by 26,210 participants or a massive 60 per cent!

The WAFC Education Team thanks all our great AFL School Ambassadors for their support and looks forward to working with you in 2012 to continue to enhance the literacy, numeracy, physical education and health skills of our students.

Free AFL PD for Teachers

Become part of the team and capture students’ interest by promoting AFL in your school and incorporating Australian Football in the curriculum.

The South Fremantle District is inviting teachers to become AFL School Ambassadors. You don’t have to be an AFL nut or good at footy, or even a Phys Ed teacher – we welcome all teachers to become a part of our program.

By attending these two 2-hour practical Induction Sessions you will have access to resources for the school each year including footies, opportunities for AFL/WAFL player visits and competitions.
