2012 Coles AFL School Ambassador of the Year Awards

The 2012 Coles AFL School Ambassador of the Year Awards will be presented at Patersons Stadium in August to recognise teachers who have excelled in enhancing learning and promoting physical activity through AFL programs in WA schools during 2012.

This year recognition will also be given to Coles AFL School Ambassadors who exhibited best practice over 5 or more years.

Freo Dockers Cup a success for Subiaco District

The Subiaco District held its annual Freo Dockers Cup competition at Carine Open Space on Thursday, June 14. The Freo Dockers Cup is a primary school competition for girls in Years 5, 6 and 7, in the format of a one-day lightning carnival.

This year’s participating schools were Roseworth, Davallia, Warriapendi, Karrinyup, Osborne Park and John Septimus Roe. Roseworth Primary School proved to be too strong, staying undefeated for the day on their way to an impressive victory against Warriapendi Primary School in the Grand Final.

Driving rain doesn't dampen spirits

Driving rain provided the backdrop for the Freo Dockers Shield at Ron Jose Oval in Midvale, with eight Primary Schools from the Swans District braving the wet weather to slog it for schoolyard bragging rights.

The pouring rain didn’t seem to dampen the spirits with players taking towering marks and kicking some spectacular goals.

Whilst the eight Primary Schools, including Clayton View, Greenmount, St Anthony’s, Swan View, Moorditj College, Midvale, Middle Swan and Woodbridge played their hearts out, they didn’t let winning get in the way of having fun and making some new friends.

Lockridge PS takes out Dockers Cup in Swans District

The Swans District Flats Dockers Cup was decided on a knife’s edge between Lockridge PS and Midvale PS at Jubilee Reserve on the 24th May.

Eight primary schools participate in a neck and neck competition and despite it being their first year in the Dockers Cup, Lockridge PS took out the honours.

The Swans District thanked Bassendean JFC for hosting the Dockers Cup and Darling Range Sports College for providing a quality batch of umpires.

AFL School Ambassador’s from Bullsbrook DHS, Guildford PS and Woodbridge PS also put in a mountain of work to make the day a stunning success for the Swans District.

Fremantle Dockers Right Behind School Footy

The Fremantle Dockers launched their Community Development program for 2012 to coincide with the beginning of the new school term. Fremantle’s CDP was first introduced way back in 2003, the first integrated program of its kind in the AFL. Through its first eight years the program’s initiatives have engaged more than 750,000 children.

Fremantle’s CDP programs in conjunction with the WA Football Commission seek to provide an environment where primary and secondary aged school students can experience personal achievement in terms of competence, enhanced self-esteem, social cooperation, maximum participation and skill development. With a wide variety of activities on offer all students both male and female are catered for.
