2011 AFL School Ambassador Awards Criteria & Guidelines

THE NOMINATION & SELECTION PROCESS

The nomination & selection process for all AFL School Ambassador of the Year nominees is as follows.

1.     All AFL School Ambassador of the Year nominations for all categories will be given to Colin West, General Manager, Development and Education at the West Australian Football Commission.

2.     A panel comprising WAFC Education Team members will select the finalists for each category (max 5 per category).

3.     These Ambassadors will then be asked to provide additional information (max 500 words) to support their nomination.

4.     All Finalists will be invited to the Presentation Ceremony at a Special Function at Patersons Stadium on FRIDAY 12th AUGUST.

5.     The State Judging Panel will review the Finalists and select the State Award, best Primary School, best Secondary School Ambassadors as well as the four Special Category winners.

NOMINATION/SELECTION CRITERIA

The following selection criteria will be used by the Selection Panel to determine the winners of the categories for the AFL School Ambassador of the Year Awards.

NOMINATION

The initial nomination for each category should include the following;

MOST OUTSTANDING PRIMARY & HIGH SCHOOL AMBASSADOR AWARDS

1.     The Nominating person should describe in 250 words or less their reasons for nominating the AFL School Ambassador on the Official Nomination Form.

2.     The Nomination Form reasons should include a description of at least one new “best practice and/or innovation” that the Ambassador has introduced and implemented at their school during 2011. This activity should demonstrate achievement of literacy, numeracy and/or phys. ed. /health outcomes.

3. The AFLSA’s school should have participated in most of the available football programs offered by the WA Football Commission, WAFL Clubs, Fremantle and West Coast Eagles Football Clubs. This is subject to availability, eligibility and access conditions.

4.     The AFLSA must have a positive relationship with their aligned junior and/or senior community club(s) through a high level of support provided to these club(s).

5.     The AFLSA must have a positive relationship with their District Smarter than Smoking Football or Regional Development Staff working in their metropolitan district or country region.

6.     The nominated AFLSA must complete their 2011 AFL School Ambassador Evaluation Form by Monday 1st August, 2011.

If selected as one of the Finalists in a category, the AFLSA has the opportunity to submit additional information to support their nomination. This additional information must not exceed 500 words and could include: AFL program achievements by the school, community relationships, media coverage, evidence of the classroom implementation of AFL programs (e.g. Activities from the AFL Learning On line Program).

Nominations for the Special Category Awards

  • Outstanding First Year AFL School Ambassador
  • Outstanding Remote/Indigenous School AFL Program
  • Outstanding Female AFL School Program
  • Outstanding Multicultural AFL School Program

For each of these awards the nominating person should submit information on the Official Nomination Form. Please describe in 250 words or less what the Ambassador has achieved at their school in their special category area.

As explained above, the WAFC selection panel will short list a maximum of 5 finalists in each category and ask the nominated Ambassador to submit additional information for consideration by the WAFC Judging Panel. This additional information must not exceed 500 words.

Eligibility Criteria for Special Category Awards

  • Outstanding First Year AFL School Ambassador

-       Ambassador must have been inducted into the program in 2011.

  • Outstanding Remote/Indigenous Program

-       Ambassador must be located in one of the following country regions – Goldfields, Kimberley, Midwest (Gascoyne), Pilbara and/or Christmas/Cocos Islands.

-       Ambassador cannot be located in a major regional town e.g. Broome, Port Hedland, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, etc.

-       Ambassador must have conducted a program that has successfully engaged indigenous students in AFL activities in 2011.

  • Outstanding Female Program

-       Ambassador must have conducted a program that has successfully engaged female students in AFL activities in 2011.

  • Outstanding Multicultural Program

-       Ambassador must have conducted a program that has successfully engaged multicultural students in AFL activities in 2011.
