The AFL School Ambassador from North Parmelia Primary School, Kate Anderson, last week staged a Jog to the “G” fun run to raise money for her school.

North Parmelia Year 6 students jogged laps of school oval to see if they could cover the same distance as it would take to get to the Melbourne Cricket Ground from Perth.

The school was split by factions into trams of Eagles (blue and yellow) and Dockers (red and green) to accomplish the task.

The students worked out the distance and the amount of laps needed to be completed with the students having to run around the oval 11,510 times to reach their target.

To count the laps, Ms Anderson had two blackboards set up and for each 10 kids that ran through the banner a teacher put a stroke on a piece of paper and she subtracted the amount on a chalk board so they could all see.

Unfortunately the kids fell short of their target, with the Eagles managing 2560 laps and Dockers 2650.

Ms Anderson said the rest of the term would be used to try to get the children to run the rest of the distance.

“As they didn't quite get to Melbourne we will transfer it to daily fitness for the rest of the term to see if we can get any closer,” she said.

“The kids absolutely loved the day and we also invited parents and had quite a few going round with younger kids in pushers. We also had music and the club songs were played while they were going around.”

The students received sponsorship money from parents and community members and for every $5 they raised they got a ticket into a major prize draw.
