Courtney Court and Georgia Cunningham beat hundreds of other budding young artists to win this year’s Design-a-Banner Competition.

The competition was run by Newspapers in Education (published by The West Australian) in conjunction with West Australian Football Commission.

The design of the banner needed to include a catchy slogan or phrase to celebrate the 150 years of Australian Football, the official 150 year logo and a drawing that reflects and celebrates this historic event.

Courtney, from Infant Jesus School in Morley and Georgia, from Ranford Primary School, had their winning images transferred to real-life run-through banners that were created by the West Coast Eagles cheer squad and erected at Langley Park as part of the recent Major Schools 150 year event.

The girls ran through their banners, along with children from the other schools and players from Fremantle and West Coast.

Courtney’s banner read “Our 150th Anniversary has come at last – let us all celebrate the past. What a blast”, while Georgia’s said “Football since the dawn of time”.

Both Courtney and Georgia won a family pass to an AFL match, a commemorative football with the 150 year logo and a visit from an AFL player who will present the school with 150th year anniversary footballs.
