CBC Fremantle takes out WAFC Schoolboys Cup Cable Division

The 2011 WAFC Schoolboys Cup competition concluded on the weekend with Christian Brothers College Fremantle winning their first ever WAFC Schoolboys Cup Cable Division Grand Final since the competition’s inception in 1988.

The game was evenly poised at half time with some fantastic skills on display. After the break CBC broke away with the aid of a three goal breeze to eventually run out winners by 36 points.

This year’s grand final was played as the curtain raiser to the Fremantle v Hawthorn AFL match at Patersons Stadium.

Sign up now for Multicultural Gala Day


SCHOOLS are being encouraged to register Year 8 to 10 students for an AFL Multicultural Gala Day at Curtin University on Wednesday, August 3.

Participants will have the chance to compete in an AFL 9s tournament and skills stations, as well as meet West Coast Eagles players including Nic Naitanui. The event kicks off at 11am and concludes at 2pm.

Male and female players can take part in this AFL inclusive event, which aims to welcome new players from all backgrounds and skill levels to Aussie Rules football.

Throughout the day participants will have the opportunity to enhance their AFL skills and compete in a round robin tournament based on the exciting new AFL 9s format. All participants will also be provided with a free lunch.

The deadline for school registrations is Friday, July 29 at 5pm

Winthrop Baptist College take out WAFC Schoolboys Jakovich Division Title

Winthrop Baptist College and Chisholm College squared off last week to decide the WAFC Schoolboys Jakovich Division title.

In front of a large crowd and in perfect conditions, the grand final was played at a frantic pace with some outstanding skills on display. In the end it was Winthrop Baptist who came away with a victory defeating Chisholm College by nine points.

Competition Patron and former West Coast Eagles Champion Glen Jakovich was on hand to present the WAFC Schoolboys Cup and medallions to the players, coaches and umpires.

WAFC Schoolgirls battle it out for glory

Corpus Christi and John Septimus Roe celebrated Grand Final success last weekend at East Fremantle Oval after taking out their respective divisions in the 2011 WAFC Schoolgirls Cup.

For John Septimus Roe it was their third Moore Division title in four years after defeating St Brigid’s College by 10 points, while for Corpus Christi College it was back to back White Division titles, defeating St Mary’s AS by 7 points.

In front of a large crowd and in a terrific promotion for female football, the grand finals were played as the curtain raisers to the East Fremantle Sharks v Swan Districts WAWFL matches.

2011 Design a Football Jumper Competition Winners

THE West Australian Football Commission in conjunction with Burley Sekem has announced the winners of the Design a Football Jumper competition for 2011.

This year over 70 schools from around the state took part in the competition which involved designing a football jumper which truly reflected the ethos of the school and took into account other aspects of the community such as local landmarks, location of school, cultural influences and sporting involvement.
