Adam Tetlow, from Mt Barker Community College, was named as recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Service as a Coles AFL School Ambassador Award at the premier dinner function at Patersons Stadium on Friday, August 17.
Also announced at the WA Football Commission’s AFLSA Academy Awards were the Most Outstanding Primary and Secondary School Ambassadors, Outstanding Female Program, Multicultural Program, Indigenous Program and Most Outstanding First Year Ambassador.
Special guests included WAFC Chairman, Frank Cooper; WAFC CEO, Gary Walton; Coles WA Zone Manager, Colin Chantler; Michelle Phillips, Manager Eagles in the Community, WCE on behalf of BHP Billiton , Wade Spilcker Community Programs Manager, Fremantle Football Club, AFL SportsReady State Manager, Colin West and AFL Female Manager, Jan Cooper.
All competition-winning school teams and their coaches were also acknowledged for their achievements including the three divisions of the AFL SportsReady Cup Schoolboys Competition.
“We are privileged to work with very motivated and talented teachers who successfully promote Australian Football within their schools and districts,” Sharon Wilson, WAFC Education Manager said.
“There are so many educational, social and health benefits from participating in our great indigenous game. Students can become involved in a range of football-related activities including analyzing player and team statistics, reporting on games, creating balanced diets, devising injury prevention and rehabilitation programs, compiling audio-visual footage and promotional material as well as playing, coaching and umpiring. Today’s students are the future of the game.”

Coles Outstanding Service as a Coles AFLSA - Adam Tetlow - Mt Barker Community College

Adam has been an AFLSA ambassador for five years. As a classroom teacher Adam runs an annual Football Focus program teaching the fundamentals of coaching and officiating.
Participants then run clinics and game promotions in local primary schools. These students also fundraise for a trip to Melbourne each year to watch four games of AFL and experience the football culture that exists there.
Adam also coaches upper school boys and girls, runs Eagles Faction Football with the primary school and has been the school's representative on the Great Southern Regional Football Development Council.
This year Adam was the Great Southern Youth Girls Coordinator, building on his previous experience as Youth Girls Coach.

Coles Outstanding Primary Coles AFLSA - Peter Harty - West Morley PS
Peter works in a school with a very high migrant population which, until last year, ran virtually no Australian Football programs. Fast forward to this year, as a result of his enthusiasm, the school won its Eagles Cup division.
Peter also runs a lunchtime club for students interested in all things AFL, runs Eagles Faction Footy and is the coordinator of the East Perth Auskick Centre.
Peter is the East Perth Royal Ambassador for a cluster of seven Morley schools. Five of them competed in the Eagles Cup, three ran Auskick centres and four participated in a Freo Dockers Shield Carnival.
He is the 2012 Schools Delegate for the East Perth DFDC.
The growth of football in this cluster is exceptional and demonstrates Peter's regular communications with other ASFLSAs and gentle persuasion are having a positive impact.
Coles Outstanding Secondary Coles AFLSA - Paul Galloway - Pinjarra SHS
Paul has combined his extensive knowledge of AFL and the Health and Physical Education curriculum to develop Senior School pathways for Pinjarra's Football Academy students.
His TAFE-accredited Certificate II in Sports Coaching assists local primary schools’ sports carnivals with officials, coaches and umpires.
Paul has initiated a Leadership Framework to encourage his students to achieve their personal best through a sense of respect and fair play.
He runs primary school coaching clinics, developed an undefeated 2012 WAFC Schoolgirls Cup team and organised matches between Pinjarra SHS and Banksia Hill Juvenile Detention Centre's football team.
He is the Peel Regional Coordinator of the AFL SportsReady Cup and is on the Secondary Schools Football Advisory Committee.
Outstanding First Year Coles AFLSA - Adrian Correia - CBC Fremantle
Becoming an accredited Coles AFL School Ambassador was merely a formality for this fantastic AFL promoter.
He enables and encourages participation in a myriad of both district and WAFC programs including Year 8/9 Schoolboys, Year 7 Dockers Shield, Year 10 carnivals and the AFL SportsReady Cup in the Cable Division.
Adrian assists coordinating the student-run Freo Dockers House Footy, runs the Year 7 SEPEP program and ensures the practical AFL component of the Year 12 PE Studies Stage 3 A/B program meets required standards.
He organised a Melbourne footy tour for 34 Year 10 to 12 boys and coaches Willetton AFC league team.
Adrian even presented at a Level One Coaching course this year, imparting his knowledge of teaching youth footy to the up and coming coaches in the South's zone.
Outstanding Female AFL Program - Narelle Scott - Beeliar PS
Narelle is very active within the school promoting AFL. More than 55 girls from Years 4 to 7 have been involved in either playing at half time of a Freo Dockers Game and/or school visits by Fremantle Dockers players.
The girls are eagerly looking forward to the Freo Dockers Cup this year after winning last year.
She is coach and coordinator of two Freo Dockers Cup and one Freo Dockers Shield team, coach of the Eagles Cup team and co-coordinator of Freo Skills 4 Schools teams.
As the Music Specialist Narelle taught a football theme for eight weeks using AFL songs in the Junior Choir (250 students from PP – Year 3).
At state level she is Team Manager for the State Girls under 16s AFL Team.
Outstanding Indigenous AFL Program - Jason Bristow - Balga SHS
Jason is the key leader of a program designed by the Subiaco Football Club and the Subiaco District to have Aboriginal Youth aged between 11 and 16 years (both boys and girls) re-engage with and see the benefits, both short and long term, of an education.
He plans to use physical activity and local sporting clubs to assist by offering assistance and mentoring programs to participants, further developing their skills resulting in stronger communities.
Outstanding Multicultural AFL Program - James McIntyre - East Butler PS
James incorporates AFL for his school where more than 50% of the students are English or from multicultural backgrounds.
James involved his school in Faction Footy, Interschool Football Carnivals, all-girl clinics, all-girl and all-boy Auskick Centres, visits from West Perth Football District and the Eagles Rock My School program.
His role in promoting Australian Football at the school is tough as soccer is the local sport of choice; the battle of the round versus the oval ball is a constant discussion in the playground.
James is the West Perth DFDC Primary Schools Advisor and sits on the DFDC.

John Batten, Warwick Senior High School
John is an inaugural AFL School Ambassador. He leads the ASP program at Warwick Senior High School and has coached interschool teams for both boys and girls at all year levels.
John coaches and assists junior and senior community clubs including Warwick Greenwood JFC and Stirling Saints AFC and has also coached the Subiaco Football Club s 14's, 15's and 16's as well as the State Schoolboys 15's.
He develops coaches and umpires coordinating students to umpire lighting carnivals and conduct Auskick centres at local primary schools.
He has been the district's Secondary AFLSA of the Year for the last four years.
John's wealth of knowledge and skill greatly benefits students, schools, teachers and community members alike.
Gary Gough, South Coogee Primary School
Gary has been an AFL School Ambassador since the program's inception. He is on South Fremantle's DFDC and PSFAC as Primary School Advisor and Support Ambassador.
Gary has been an Eagles Cup coordinator since 2004, organises a 14-school Freo Dockers Shield, competed in the inaugural Freo Dockers Cup carnival and implemented the Ambassador Flag program which recognises schools with an AFL School Ambassador on staff.
He also organises and promotes Eagles Faction Footy, The West Australian's Footy Pack and Design a Jumper Competition.
Gary is Deputy Chair on the Cockburn District Schools Sports Board and presents at coaching courses for the District.
He is a brilliant asset with his insight and significant experience.
Mike Gray, Halls Head Community College
Mike has a long and extensive association with football and education in the Peel District. He has been an AFLSA since the beginning of the program.
Having originally been involved at Mandurah High School, Mandurah Senior College and now Halls Head Community College, Mike instigated football programs based on the curriculum at each school culminating with a Football Program being incorporated into main stream studies at Halls Head CC in 2010.
Mike carries out the roles of umpire, coach, committee member, President and delegate within the Peel Junior Football League, demonstrating his commitment to football in both school and local community environments.
Mike is always actively promoting our great game, influencing those in his sphere to be part of and enjoy the benefits of participating in WAFC's programs and competitions.
Jason Reid, Bunbury Cathedral Grammar
Jason joined the AFL School Ambassador program in 2007. Reidy, as he is affectionately known, is involved in footy “up to his eyeballs".
He has coached in the Landmark Country Carnival since 2001, is a South West Junior Football League Executive Committee Member where he holds the role of Competition Coordinator for all levels, a member of the South West Regional Development Committee and South West Academy of Sport Football Squad coach.
Jason also coaches Bunbury CGC's football teams, is the Bunbury Division Coordinator of the Eagles and Freo Dockers Cups and Manager of Bunbury Primary School's Year 4 team.
As if that is not enough, he is also involved at his local Auskick Centre.
Reidy is to be commended for his continuing commitment to the sport he so clearly loves.

Michael Cuneo, Marble Bar Primary School
At Marble Bar Remote Community School Mike's AFL program is linked to improved attendance and educational outcomes particularly for Aboriginal students. He believes it accelerates student learning as it fast tracks their cognitive and physical development.
In the past six months attendance has increased with over 70 percent of all students participating in the program on a regular basis.
Mike officiates whole-school lunchtime football games and involves those who do not wish to compete in alternative football-oriented activities. During matches Mike builds “teachable” moments related to cooperation, teamwork, pride, problem solving and goal setting as a way to empower students and built high expectations across the school.

Terry Pass, Gwynne Park Primary School
Terry is a long-time supporter of football and has been an AFLSA since the program began.
Terry has always been passionate about the relationship between his school and the local footy club collaborating on projects including after school Auskick programs.
He was instrumental in the push to change the sports colours of the school red and black reflecting the community sporting clubs' colours.
He organises footy clinics in PE classes, lunch time Eagles Faction Footy and Freo Skills 4 Schools and created the inaugural club-based all-girl Auskick centre.
He coordinates his local Eagles Cup division, initiated in the school's Dockers Supporters Club and a Wear Your Colours day for the whole school.
Greg Perry, Davallia Primary School
Greg runs lunch time Eagles Faction Football, coached a Freo Dockers Cup girls’ and Eagles Cup team. He also runs Auskick using middle primary students as umpires.
Greg completed umpire training and is a strong supporter of umpire development.
He organised a West Coast Eagles visit, a Fremantle Dockers coaching clinic and junior primary coaching clinics with the Subiaco District.
Greg also ran the Freo Skills 4 Schools program and has achieved incredible results promoting the Coles Sports for Schools Vouchers, providing substantial sport resources for the school.
Greg makes footy come alive.
Dan Rodgers, Deanmore Primary School
Dan is like a whirlwind of energy and excitement. He not only loves what he does but is also very good at doing it.
Already this year Dan has had 68 students sign up for and complete a seven-week after-school Auskick program.
Over 120 students participated in lunchtime Eagles Faction Footy with the Year 7 boys' teams featuring on Today Tonight to promote Dean Kemp's football academy.
More than 40 girls train after school for the Freo Dockers Cup.
In addition Dan incorporated AFL across the school, organised visits from mascots Rick the Rock Eagle and Johnny the Doc Docker culminating in students making biscuits shaped and coloured like their mascot friends.
2012 Secondary Coles AFL School Ambassador of the Year FINALISTS
Oliver Beath, All Saints’ College
Oliver coaches a team in every available interschool competition run by the WAFC, from Year 7 Girls through to Year 11/12 Boys.
He has organised numerous carnivals including a Year 8/9 Carnival - now in its 7th year - and a Year 7 Dockers Cup Carnival.
He also coaches the State 16's Schoolgirls and is on the Schoolgirls’ Committee, assisting with fixtures and results for the South West zone.
At school he runs Footy Tipping and Dream Team competitions, Freo House Footy and promotes the AFL School Ambassador program with his colleagues.
As the Head of HPE, he also makes sure AFL programs have grown within the PE curriculum.
Jeremy Bruse, Cecil Andrews Senior High School
Jeremy runs the Specialist AFL Program at Cecil Andrews and uses this as a vehicle to engage males, females, indigenous and non-indigenous students, encouraging a large number of them to stay at school for his programs and positive rewards.
His Year 8 to 10 students use the AFL Dream Team to enhance the development of their numeracy skills.
Jeremy coordinates his students to run clinics at local primary schools and at Lightning Carnivals in the SE Zone and organised the first SE Zone Female Carnival for Year 10 to 12 students this year. He hopes this will become an annual event promoting participation in female football.
The relationship he created with staff at EFFC extended to him assisting with development squads.
Justin Burt, Wanneroo Senior High School
Justin's role as Australian Football Specialist Program Coordinator at Wanneroo Senior High School has seen him write and develop programs for Junior and Upper School classes, with over 50 students enrolled in Certificate II – Sports Coaching (Football focus) in 2012.
Justin provides many opportunities for students to play, umpire and coach. He organised over 30 local primary school visits to run clinics and promote football with his students.
This continues to build upon the strong relationships he has built between local primary schools and Wanneroo SHS.
He has continued his involvement with the West Perth and Wanneroo Junior Football Clubs, enabling more children to play community football and represent the West Perth district.

Chris is on the DFDC as the Secondary Schools representative, organising other schools to participate in WAFC competitions.
Chris runs Year 10 Girls Freo Hose Footy and initiated the now-famous Teachers versus Students Freo House Footy Game which is now in its third year and attracts over 500 spectators.
He coaches the Year 8 and 9 Specialised Football Program teams and a Year 8/9 WAFC Schoolboys competition.
Chris is responsible for the promotion and coaching of two Year 8/9 and two Year 10 teams for the All Girls Lightning Carnival, the WAFC Schoolgirls Cup and the Claremont District Youth Girls.

Zac Baker, Banksia Grove Catholic Primary School
In his first year as an AFL School Ambassador and only his second year as a teacher Zac has implemented many Australian Football themes into the school curriculum, both in and out of the classroom.
Zac has conducted an AFL program in every year group's Physical Education lessons and has organised for West Perth Football Club to do clinics and assemblies.
He has also encouraged junior primary students to join the new Auskick club at Carramar.
During term two Zac organised for the Year 4 class to attend the WAFC's Multicultural Gala Day at Brownes Stadium and for Paul Mugambwa to coordinate a six-week program introducing students from multicultural backgrounds to Australian Football.
Robert Beswick, Pinjarra Senior High School
Robert Beswick is a graduate Physical Education teacher returning home to the school where he completed his secondary education.
A current WAFL player, he has eagerly taken on a position with the school-based AFL academy working with Year 9 and 10 students.
Robert’s expertise and commitment develops young players who want to remain involved in the game as participants, fans and future coaches at a grassroots level.
He delivers a Certificate ll in Sports Coaching to the Senior students, is the Head Coach for the Year 9/10 AFL academy students and teaches a quality Health and Physical Education curriculum to diverse classes of Year 8 and 9 students.

Brigit Wall, North Mandurah Primary School
Brigit's commitment to teaching a healthy and active lifestyle is something she not only believes in, but lives by.
Her initiatives, like the exercise-based Breakfast Club have brought a new and vibrant footy feel to a school where participation was low.
Brigit has introduced Australian Football to the girls of NMPS with a high degree of success.
The school participated in all WAFC Programs this year (Brigit's first as an AFLSA) and was Peel District 'Gold Ambassador' status, making her only one of five to achieve this level in the District and the only female to do so.
Her love and passion for footy combined with the AFLSA Program benefit all she has contact with.
Darius Schwarz, Lockridge Primary School
Darius has brought his knowledge and coaching expertise from other sports and combined it with the techniques picked up from AFL School Ambassador courses to produce a vibrant and inclusive footy program at Lockridge Primary.
His enthusiasm has engaged many boys and girls from a variety of backgrounds to take up the sport as players and coaches.
He recently returned from the school's first Freo Dockers Cup venture with the girls’ team going undefeated through their competition. Eagles Faction Footy will be run in Term 3
Darius took over 50 students to the WAFC Multicultural Gala Day and has successfully encouraged students to play for local clubs.

Christina Lockyer, Bullsbrook District High School
Christina has made a fantastic contribution to female football and school programs this year, producing a Freo Dockers Cup side and building the profile of the female football pathway at Bullsbrook DHS.
Christina has supported the development of a highly successful six-week school-based all-girl Auskick Centre at Bullsbrook DHS.
Paul Loffler, Kalbarri District High School
Paul has run a female Australian Rules programme for the Kalbarri community and students in upper school at KDHS for five years. Games are played on the school oval and are well supported by adults and children alike.
Paul initiated the Brockwell Medal in memoriam of Brenda Brockwell, a former KDHS teacher and player, who tragically passed away.
Other awards include Rising Star, Goal of the Year and Mark of the Year. The Awards night is always well received and thoroughly enjoyed. Without his efforts and time this would not have happened.

David Traynor, John Septimus Roe ACS
Dave coached the JSR team which reached the Grand Final in the Moore Division of the WAFC Schoolgirls Cup. He also assisted with the organising of the competition.
Dave has run a Level 0 in Umpiring and Coaching providing skilled volunteers for the district's Freo Dockers Cup and other local carnivals.
In Term 3, with the help of his girls, he will run a girl's Auskick program in the district with the aim of trying to set up a Junior Girls competition in 2013.
He coached the Subiaco District Youth Girls side, is Female Coordinator for the district and was team manager for the State Schoolgirls 16's.
His relationship with the Coastal Titans has ensured the transition between school girls and senior women's football.
Nuria Ushoroff, Australian Islamic College, Kewdale
Nuria is a great role model for all the children from Early Childhood right through to the upper primary years of schooling.
She has introduced a number of new and exciting programs into the sports curriculum which has seen a significant and positive change in behaviour at the school.
Her outgoing personality is always appreciated.

Deb Fitzsimons, Cyril Jackson Senior Campus
Deb's incredible determination to promote AFL at Cyril Jackson SHS, in the Intensive English Course, has resulted in the delivery of a highly successful multicultural program for new migrants from Afghanistan, Congo and many more countries.
Deb, in her first year as an AFLSA, has promoted the profile of AFL so effectively that she has engaged other teachers in the process.
Allison McAuliffe, Osborne Primary School
Allison works tirelessly to engage with the large number of multicultural students at Osborne Primary School.
She has successfully used football as a delivery system to promote respect, tolerance and harmony.
Allison started up a female football team, with a squad of Multicultural girls. They represented Osborne Primary School in the 2012 Freo Dockers Cup.
