WA Football

The Subiaco District held its annual Freo Dockers Cup competition at Carine Open Space on Thursday, June 14. The Freo Dockers Cup is a primary school competition for girls in Years 5, 6 and 7, in the format of a one-day lightning carnival.

This year’s participating schools were Roseworth, Davallia, Warriapendi, Karrinyup, Osborne Park and John Septimus Roe. Roseworth Primary School proved to be too strong, staying undefeated for the day on their way to an impressive victory against Warriapendi Primary School in the Grand Final.

Over 120 girls participated in the competition, with all thoroughly enjoying the day. The games were contested in great spirit, with a number of teachers commenting on the fantastic sportsmanship shown by all of the girls.

Players from the Coastal Titans Women’s Football Club assisted with the umpiring and were very impressed with the standard of play throughout the day. It quickly became clear that there are a number of very talented girls playing football for their school.

The Subiaco District thanks the Fremantle Dockers Football Club for its ongoing support of the Freo Dockers Cup competition. The support received from Fremantle makes it much easier to run competitions like these and all of the schools involved really appreciate it.

The Subiaco District would also like to thank the Carine Junior Football Club for allowing us access to its change rooms and equipment for the day.

Lastly, a big thank you to all schools that participated. It was clear that all of the girls loved the experience and the opportunity to get involved in football.
