Barlow a special guest at induction of 1000th Ambassador

Fremantle Dockers player, Michael Barlow, was the special guest at the AFL School Ambassador Induction Day at Patersons Stadium on Tuesday, March 15, for school teachers passionate about AFL.

Barlow added profile and entertainment to this important day with his great sense of humour and anecdotes about his school days in Shepparton, Victoria, and Assumption College.

The day also marked a very significant milestone in the history of the AFL School Ambassador Program in WA, with the 1000th WA teacher being inducted into the Ambassador Team.

Simon Lawson, a secondary school teacher from Belmont City College, was the 64th person to enter the room and when added to the current 936 teachers from the previous eight years, he became the 1000th Ambassador inducted.

Simon, pictured with the AFL's Mark Riddiford and WAFC's Colin West, was acknowledged and congratulated and will be rewarded with tickets to an AFL Western Derby in 2011 and a special framed photograph.

The Ambassador program has driven significant growth in school footy over the past five years but just as importantly has enhanced student learning in the key areas of literacy and numeracy.
