Working in conjunction with Student Edge, West Australian Football Commission ran a ‘describe your footy hero’ competition over the month of June & July. Student Edge received number of entrants deemed worthy of winning the prize. However, like all good competitions, you could only have one winner.
The winner was from Balcatta Senior High School, Ebonnie Poduti from Year 8. She described the following person as her footy hero; “My mum is my hero & my rock because she has been through a lot and she has stayed strong over the years through tough times & that’s why I love her.”
By being the winner of this competition, Ebonnie was able to get Robbie Wiley, past Eagle’s legend to run a footy clinic for her class room. Robbie brought down Patrick McGinnity who was courageous on the past Derby loss to Fremantle Dockers & Eric MacKenzie who matched up against Matthew Pavlich. Patrick Hassett from Subiaco Lions came down to assist with the footy clinic, which the students enjoyed his company.
Student Edge’s CEO, Julian Sallabank said, “Playing AFL/footy is a wonderful sport and it’s great to see such participation and involvement across both genders.” Members’ entries flooded in with the most popular answer being a West Coast Eagles player or their parents.
WAFC Marketing Executive, Nathan Durham said, “It’s great to see the partnership with Student Edge flourish with WAFC as they are an integral part of WA education system”. On behalf of WAFC, we would like to congratulate Ebonnie & Balcatta Senior High School for winning this ‘money can’t buy experience’.
