Rugby Championship to feature Springboks Return to Perth

The Qantas Wallabies will take on two-time World Cup champions South Africa at Patersons Stadium when the game’s latest jewel in the crown – The Castrol Edge Rugby Championship – is launched next year.

Australian Rugby Union has revealed the name, the logo and the draw for The Castrol Edge Rugby Championship which replaces the Tri Nations series next year following the inclusion of Argentina alongside the Wallabies, All Blacks and Springboks.

The Castrol Edge Rugby Championship will involve six Tests for each of the four competing nations as they play each other home and away in the ultimate contest for southern hemisphere heavyweights.

For the Qantas Wallabies the ground-breaking Championship includes a Rugby World Cup quarter finals re-match against South Africa on Saturday, 8 September.

Patersons Stadium Launches 'SMS Your SOS' Initiative

Patersons Stadium launched a new SMS system in Round One of the 2011 AFL season. Branded ‘SMS Your SOS’, the new SMS system is designed to allow patrons to discreetly and anonymously report any disturbances or issues via SMS from their seat.

In previous years patrons have had to approach a staff member in order to report any issues, which the staff member would then pass through to event management. This SMS system will now make it easier for patrons to report issues and allow stadium managers to act on the report effectively and efficiently.

South African team tours Patersons Stadium


South Africa's International Australian Rules Football team visited Patersons Stadium this week as part of the lead up to the 2011 AFL International Cup.

The Lions toured Patersons Stadium during their visit to Perth and had the opportunity to see the Fremantle and West Coast changerooms as well the WA Football Hall of Fame and media facilities.

The Lions arrived in Perth on Friday July 29 for a 12 day development tour which included two practice matches and a series of training sessions and coaching workshops, all under the watchful eye of Swan Districts Football Club.

The Lions have formed a strong partnership with Swan Districts since the club assited their preparations for the 2008 International Cup.

Patersons Stadium kicking goals for the environment


Patersons Stadium, Western Australia’s largest and most recognised stadium (formerly Subiaco Oval), is encouraging patrons at all future West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers home games to Do The Right Thing, Use The Right Bin.

Funded by the Packaging Stewardship Forum (PSF) of the Australian Food and Grocery Council and Patersons Stadium, 100 new waste and recycling bins have been installed throughout the venue, each carrying the national call to action to Do The Right Thing, Use the Right Bin.
