TABtouch Team of Round 6

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 - 9:24 AM - by Chris Pike
IT was quite the exciting Round 6 of the WAFL on return from the State Game break with Subiaco and Perth's winning runs coming to an end, South Fremantle making a statement and East Fremantle winning for the first time in nearly 12 months. On top of the fascinating results that saw Subiaco lose for the first time since the 2017 Grand Final and Perth for the first time in 2019 while East Fremantle snapped a 15-game losing run, there were plenty of standout individual performances too. Whether it was South Fremantle defenders Noah Strom and Jason Maskos or Claremont's Anton Hamp, or Subiaco's Kyal Horsley in a losing effort, Claremont's dual Sandover Medallist Jye Bolton, East Fremantle's Nick Kommer putting his team on his back or Shane Nelson doing the same for West Perth, there were plenty of brilliant performances across Round 6. Deluca can't do more for another AFL chance

Saturday, May 18, 2019 - 8:25 AM - by Chris Pike
HE is now a four-time WAFL premiership player, a Simpson Medallist and a proven consistently outstanding performer so Josh Deluca can't do any more to deserve another AFL chance but he is just focusing on continuing to ply his trade with the undefeated Subiaco. Deluca's journey began as a teenager when he was a lively small forward in Subiaco's 2014 premiership triumph which saw him land on Fremantle's AFL list and led to him playing in the 2016 and 2017 WAFL premierships at Peel Thunder. He would play four AFL games for Fremantle in 2017 but during his three years at the Dockers, he turned himself from that dangerous small forward into a tough and consistent on-baller who was equally adept at winning the ball in close and getting out in space and being damaging. Premiership hunger driving on 150-gamer Wilson

Saturday, May 18, 2019 - 8:11 AM - by Chris Pike
HAVING been remarkably close to premiership glory in five of the past six seasons, South Fremantle defender Blayne Wilson is craving that ultimate success as he reaches 150 WAFL games this Saturday against Subiaco. Wilson was always seen as an exciting talent when rising through the ranks at Peel Thunder from Halls Head. He ended up spending four years listed at West Coast and did play nine AFL games, but a combination of untimely injuries and not quite enough opportunities meant it didn’t quite work out. But whether it was during 29 games in his formative years in the WAFL at Peel Thunder, in his 36 appearances including two Grand Finals at East Perth or now in 84 matches with South Fremantle, Wilson has always been an elite defender in the competition. On the back of having won the past six State Games it had contested including last year's drought breaking result over the SANFL at Adelaide Oval, the WAFL started strongly at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
