Gibson Football Club reaches new heights promoting men’s health

Gibson Football Club in the Esperance District Football Association recently took promotion of men’s health to new heights as part of Men's Health Week and the WA Country Football League's 'talk to a mate' round. Led as part of an initiative from league coach, Mic Krygger, the club painted one of their light poles blue using equipment provided by local farmers and businesses to remind the local community about the importance of men’s health. The club also held a meeting with special guest speaker Tom Curnow, who’s father Freddy was killed in the Esperance bushfires in 2015, to deliver an inspirational message to players. Read More ...


Round 11 Optus WAFL Preview

THE WAFL is back to a full round of five matches this Saturday and with it including East Fremantle hosting the West Coast Eagles return of Nic Naitanui and then a hotly-anticipated top-of-the-table clash between South Fremantle and Subiaco, there's plenty to be excited about. After the WAFL has had two rounds with the five matches split over the two weekends, normal action resumes this Saturday in Round 11 with all five matches and it could very well be one of the most anticipated days of WAFL action in a long time. THERE were just the two matches in Round 10 of the WAFL and two of the league's best-credentialed veterans delivered match-winning performances for the teams with South Fremantle's Nick Suban and Claremont's Kane Mitchell the weekend's standouts. With East Fremantle, East Perth, Perth, Subiaco, the West Coast Eagles and West Perth all sitting out Round 10 of the WAFL having played last weekend, the four teams that had the Round 9 bye all took part on Saturday and Sunday afternoons this week. The round got underway on Saturday afternoon at Mandurah's David Grays Arena with South Fremantle beating Peel Thunder 10.14 (74) to 11.5 (71) on the back of kicking the last two goals, including the winner from former Thunder premiership player Nick Suban. Round 10 Colts Wrap

THERE were just the two games in the Simply Energy WAFL Colts in Round 10 of the 2019 season and that saw Claremont hand Swan Districts its first loss of the season and Peel Thunder make things interesting in the race for top spot. With the West Australian State 18s team currently in action, it's always a fascinating time in the colts competition any season with the chance for other players to step up in the absence of some stars who are shining on the national stage. There were just the two matches that took place in Round 10 of the 2019 season and that started with the lone clash on Saturday at Mandurah's David Grays Arena. Optus WAFLW Round 6 Wrap

PEEL Thunder recorded its first ever win in the WAFL Women's competition in style on Saturday against Swan Districts while Subiaco also confirmed itself as the team to beat in 2019 with a big win over Claremont. The 2019 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season resumed action on the weekend for Round 6 of the competition following the general bye. Things got underway on Saturday afternoon at Bassendean's Steel Blue Oval with Peel Thunder opening its account for the season. WAFC appoints new Executive Manager - Country Football and Facilities

The West Australian Football Commission has appointed a new Executive Manager - Country Football and Facilities to increase support to regional football and planning for community facilities. THERE were just the two matches in Round 10 the WAFL on the weekend with a game on each day with South Fremantle winning with the last kick of the day against Peel Thunder and Swan Districts again being overrun, this time at the hands of Claremont. Following the three matches in Round 9 of the WAFL with wins for Subiaco, West Perth and East Fremantle against Perth, the West Coast Eagles and East Perth respectively, all six of those teams took a seat on the weekend. AFLW 18s claim two wins against Queensland

Western Australia’s AFLW U18s made it two wins from two matches against Queensland with a 15-point win at Subiaco Oval on Sunday. After a tight start to the contest, WA were first to score a goal with Ella Smith slotting a set shot just minutes before the quarter time siren. Queensland out-scored WA two goals to one in the second quarter to reduce the margin to a solitary point at half time but could only manage one more behind for the remainder of the match. South Australia defeat WA at Optus

In slippery conditions South Australia defeated Western Australia by 11-points, at Optus Stadium. South Australia was more accurate in front of goal than WA, which proved to be the difference in the result. Brock Higgins | 100 South Fremantle Games

BROCK Higgins has found himself rejuvenated by the young blood coming through at South Fremantle so far in 2019 and as he reaches 100 games with the Bulldogs, he can't wait to see how far the new generation can take the club. Higgins was a key part of South Fremantle push to three preliminary finals the last three years with the standout workhorse ruckman part of an experienced brigade that included the now departed Ashton Hams, Ryan Cook, Cory Dell'Olio, Shane Hockey, Ben Saunders, Jarrod Parry, Marlion Pickett and Matthew Parker. That meant there was plenty of unknowns surrounding the Bulldogs coming into 2019, but now they hold a six-game winning streak and 7-1 record heading into Saturday's Round 10 clash with Peel Thunder in Mandurah which doubles as Higgins' 100th South Fremantle game. Western Australia’s AFLW U18s recorded a convincing 47-point win against Queensland in the opening game of the AFLW U18 Championships at Subiaco Oval on Friday, June 14. WA recorded the first major with Mikayla Morrison snapping a great goal on the run from a tight angle in the forward pocket.
