State 18s Player Diary - Jordan SnaddenTuesday, June 23, 2015 - 3:04 PM

The West Australian Football Commission’s WAFL State Academy continues to develop elite players for AFL and WAFL ranks with 87% of inductees becoming AFL listed players or WAFL League debutants over the past five years.

A commitment to the program sees players enter an elite environment with a level of professionalism designed to develop strong on and off-field leaders at WAFL League and AFL level.

2015 WAFL State Academy midfielder Jordan Snadden provides this week's insight into the life of an Academy player.

NAME: Jordan Snadden

PLAYING NUMBER: 18

POSITION: Midfield

HEIGHT / WEIGHT: 190cm / 79kg

WAFL CLUB: East Fremantle

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Leeming all my life and am currently attending Year 12 at Corpus Christi College. I live at home with my parents Allan and Nuala and have one brother, Curtis, who umpires WAFL Reserves. I have been playing footy since I was five and wish to someday play in the AFL. My other ambition is to go to university and study something like physiotherapy.

GAME STYLE

I’m a tall, bigger-bodied inside mid and a left footer. My strengths include clean hands, kicking and tackling. Things I’m aiming to improve include marking, endurance, defensive transition and kicking. I look to base my game around Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury as I play a similar role to him and I have similar traits.

MY WEEK

June 1 - 7

MONDAY

It’s the day after the Vic Country game and the WA Day public holiday so I went to watch my club play in the derby. I went to the beach afterwards for some rehab then headed home. I went to a light rehab training session tonight with the squad and was feeling pretty sore and still a bit down about our loss yesterday. Had an individual review with my line coach Steve Armstrong and picked out things I and the team did well and not so well.

TUESDAY

First day back at school after exam break and it was an early start at 7.30am with an Outdoor Ed. class. A long first day back at school and I was pretty tired throughout the day. Had training tonight at the WACA, which was still relatively light only two days after the game. Mainly focussed on skills and some more reviewing of the game. The squad for the SA game was announced and I’m excited I’ll be making the trip.

WEDNESDAY

School all day and no training tonight. It was a relatively slow day with not much happening. Did a running session tonight as a little bit of extra work.

THURSDAY

It’s the day before we fly out to Adelaide. Off to school for the day and then training tonight. Training was at Claremont Oval for a change up and we had a light skills and touch session. Got home around 7.30-8pm and had dinner then began to pack. Took a while to get everything ready. Had to make sure I am drinking lots of water throughout the day in preparation for Saturday.

FRIDAY

Early start, up at 5.30am as we are travelling to Adelaide for the game against South Australia and the plane departs at 9am. At the airport drinking a lot of water and eating snacks high in carbs and protein. Got into Adelaide around 2pm, had some lunch then went for a walk at AAMI Stadium with the squad. Pasta for dinner then just relaxed and started to wind down watching the footy on TV. Still making sure I’m hydrating and off to bed around 9.30pm making sure I’m getting plenty of sleep. I pack my bag the night before the game to make sure I’m not rushed in the morning.

SATURDAY

Up at 8am for a walk with the squad. Do some hand-eye drills with tennis balls then walk back to the hotel for breakfast at 9am. I eat the same breakfast every game day which is Weetbix, then go up to the room to have a shower and grab my things. Arrived at AAMI Stadium at 10.20am and began preparation for the game at 12pm. We didn’t come away with the win but it’s important to do recovery so into the ice baths and stretch down. Eat some lunch to refuel and continue to drink plenty of water. Get back to the hotel that afternoon and get changed to have dinner with my parents who flew over. Back to the hotel after dinner and hopped in the pool and spa for a bit more recovery then down time.

SUNDAY

Woke up around 8am for breakfast then a walk and pool recovery with the squad at 9am. Recovery finished at around 10am so up to the room to shower, pack my bags and check out. Had a game review at 10.45am then off to the airport at 12pm. Departed Adelaide around 2pm and got back to Perth about 4pm. Eating food high in protein and drinking water throughout the day. Eventually got home a bit after 5pm and unpacked. Time to start a new week.
