Round 22 WAFL ResultsSunday, August 24, 2014 - 4:26 AM - by Chris Pike

EAST Fremantle scored a big win over Swan Districts on Saturday to move into third position on the ladder with Claremont and East Perth also recording Round 22 WAFL victories on the back of South Fremantle's win on Friday night to open the weekend.

South Fremantle began the weekend with its fourth successive victory by downing the second-placed Subiaco 15.9 (99) to 12.13 (85) at Fremantle Oval on Friday night.

Then on Saturday, East Fremantle thrashed Swan Districts 18.14 (122) to 9.6 (60) at East Fremantle's ATOM Stadium, Claremont beat West Perth 8.6 (54) to 6.12 (48) at the Claremont Showground and East Fremantle scored a thumping 14.21 (105) to 5.9 (39) victory over Peel Thunder at Mandurah's Bendigo Bank Stadium.

Third position on the ladder and being the host of the first semi-final went on the line between East Fremantle and Swan Districts on Saturday, and it was the Sharks who continued Swans' recent pain with a thumping 62-point victory.

The result sees the Sharks replace Swans in third position on the ladder with them now set to host the black-and-whites in a home first semi-final unless Subiaco inflicts a hefty loss on East Fremantle next Sunday in the final round.

Swan Districts has now lost four straight matches and with a bye in the final round no chance of regaining some form and confidence ahead of the finals.

Swans were also down two men early in the contest on Saturday with captain Tallan Ames going off with a hamstring injury and key midfielder Blaine Boekhorst hurting a knee.

Boston Williamson kicked three goals for East Fremantle while Brock O'Brien, Jayden Schofield and Brett Peake all added two apiece.

Reigning Sandover Medallist Rory O'Brien racked up 33 possessions for the Sharks, Bradd Dalziell 29, Brock O'Brien 26, Jamie McNamara 25, Mark McGough 25, Andrew Stephen 24 and Tom Howlett 20.

Ricky Cary and Aidan Anderson kicked two goals each for Swan Districts while Ryan Davis collected 32 possessions, Connor Blakely 25, Travis Casserly 21 and Matthew Jukes 20.

Claremont got off to a fast start against West Perth with four first quarter goals and despite the Tigers only kicking four more goals the rest of the day, it was enough for them to still hold on to a six-point victory.

That means the Tigers have now won five straight matches to be finishing the season in superb form but finals are out of reach now well and truly. Claremont had to beat West Perth by a huge margin and hope that Swan Districts beat East Fremantle, but neither happened on Saturday.

Jackson Starcevich kicked two goals for Claremont with Luke Blackwell racking up another 30 possessions, Matthew Davies 27, Ryan Neates 26, Tom Ledger 25, Jake Murphy 22 and Tom Taylor 20.

Mark Seaby was outstanding in the ruck for the Tigers with 21 possessions, eight tackles, six marks and 29 hit outs.

Seva Martin and Max Alexander kicked two goals apiece for West Perth while Aaron Black racked up 36 possessions, Shane Nelson 31, Luke Meadows 20, Ray Bartholomew 20, Rohan Kerr 19 and Luke Tedesco 19.

East Perth could do nothing but finish the season as the minor premiers no matter the result against Peel on Saturday, but the Royals kept the Thunder goalless until the 23-minute mark of the third quarter running out 66-point winners.

The win improves East Perth to a 16-3 record on the season with one game to go before a second semi-final clash with Medibank Stadium co-tenants Subiaco at the Leederville venue.

Josh Smith kicked four goals for the Royals with Paul Johnson adding three as the two big men helped make the most of their team's dominance further afield.

Craig Wulff racked up 29 possessions for East Perth, Brendan Lee 26, Dean Cadwallader 26, Mitch Howlett 26, Steven Payne 24, Freddie Clutterbuck 23, Ashley Smith 21, Brant Colledge 21 and Nathan Blee 21.

Clancee Pearce was the standout Peel player on the ground finishing with 33 possessions while Brendon Jones gathered 25 disposals, Anthony Morabito 25, Eddie Dann 21 and Jacob Ballard 19.
